webber
We've still got around 25 magpies on the shoot and are keen to reduce their number before spring. I know its a longish shot but is anyone within easy distance of St. Helens have a couple of magpies that we can cadge? We are currently trying the usual methods of attracting them but so far without success. webber
Catamong
Webber, You should know better Matey, it's "close season" for magpie trapping due to the fact that the call bird will not survive under frosty conditions, all of my keeper friends who control pests for a living have put their traps away for the Winter. Far better to bring in extra traps and hit 'em hard starting at the end of March. Cat.
webber
Cat I take your point I should know better and didnt give it a thought. The shoots traps are infact stored away for the winter and have been for some time now. I had a meeting yesterday with the lady who owns the farm on which we shoot she claims to be having a problem with magpies around the buildings and she has been trying to trap them without sucess. She asked if I could get a call bird, and I posted on PW without a further thought. Lesson learned. It looks like I shall need to fit the moderator to the 410. Thanks for bringing the matter to my attention. webber

activeviii
I have been sorting a few out with a flapper and a U-caller for taking there picture. you just need to pin one first and then mount it on the flapper. use the caller just to get the maggies close and then switch it ff as the flapper will get them to the gun.
