jweaver
I live in Newport and applied for my SGC last week.. To my surprise, Gwent police are now processing applications in real time and I got a call within 2 days to arrange my inspection. The inspection was planned for this Friday (21st) but I ended up having an emergency business trip to Israel (Which is where I am now), so I have postponed the appointment until next week which means that I MUST get a cabinet this weekend. Last weekend I went to Litts expecting to pick up a cabinet but they were out of stock and I particularly like the "Infac B4" model which has 1 key and a 5 bolt deadlock system (rather than the cheaper 2 key models). Before I left, I looked around for the Infac and even placed and order with one company, but when I contacted them this week, they don't have stock. I have managed to make a few calls this week and found that Ladds in Devon have them and also Sportman in Exeter should be getting stock today. But this will mean taking a 200mile diversion on the way home from Heathrow on Friday and since I will be getting up at 2am GMT, I am likely to be knackered by the time I get there. I just wonder if anyone knows of any suppliers alone the M4 Corridor who may be able to supply something. I do have a number of 2 key safes available to me (mail order) if I want.. But I would rather pay a little extra and get one with a dead bolt door.. DOes anyone have any ideas for me? I can either collect on my way back from Heathrow.. Or I can arrange delivery, but I am looking for something around the £130 mark with a 250x250mm foot print! Fatcatsplat
Slow down!!!! You are applying for your SGC and as yet you do not have a gun - If you do not have a gun, you do not need a cabinet. You only need the cabinet once you have something to put in it. jweaver
I am confused.. I thought I had to have a cabinet to get a license. When I suggested that I could have the inspection BEFORE the cabinet, my FAO said that he could visit me and could approve the license, but it wouldn't be issued until I had shown him a cabinet. So I assumed I would need one. Anyway, it doesn't matter.. I have already put a deposit on a gun and want to collect it ASAP.. Thats why I need a cabinet urgently as I don't want to hold up the process!
al4x
have a look for a Brattonsound cabinet, single key and very well made, Fitting one now is fine and just means your enquiry officer doesn't need to come back. The only reason not to would be if you have a health or criminal record issue that might mean they have reason not to grant a license

The only reason not to would be if you have a health or criminal record issue that might mean they have reason not to grant a license I have considered the Brattonsound single key model, but they are quite expensive.. I am still trying to locate a Infac B4 locally which is cheaper and is exactly what I need. I agree about fitting the cabinet now.. I don't want him to have to come back.. I have a secure house, with an alarm.. No criminal history or bad health and I have (or will have) my cabinet inside a fitted wardrobe (so out of sight) fixed to a brick wall, so I can't imagine a reason why I won't get my license granted. Breastman
Why not buy one from somewhere that delivers? I got my 8/9 gun Infac safe from Euroguns and i think the postage was only £10, which is good considering the weight and bulk of a safe. (Mind that was 4 years ago) Unless you have any reason to believe your application might get refused you should have a safe installed for the FEO to have a look at on the home visit, otherwise you'll have to arrange another inspection which is only going to slow down your application Hope it goes through Mark
Fatcatsplat
I've used these chaps in the past - Very helpful and very cheap: http://www.carptrading.com/acatalog/bratto...ndcatalogue.pdf
Big_Sam
I have the Brattonsound 7 gun single key deadbolt one. Definitely worth the extra money. I have a 2 lock brattonsound down south that I use, but it seems quite weedy compared to the fort knox of the 5 lever! The only downside is it weighs a ghastly amount, even two of us could hardly lift it, you wont be able to walk off with it in the hurry! jweaver
I got it sorted in the end. Sportman Gun in Exeter had a huge delivery of their Infac cabinets in the week.. Even though I had been up since 1am, I figured it was worth the extra few (160) miles to get something that I wanted... It cost me £117 (Although the prices have now gone up to £130) and to be honest, the extra £20 (over a 2 lock model) was well worth it.. The solid door with 5 dead bolts looks the business and I am very happy. I installed it over the weekend and my inspection is tomorrow. Fingers crossed that my FAO is happy with what I have done!
