John_R
A lot of folk reckon BASC is a better bet than BASA. On one of the airgun forums there are threads that mention problems with BASA. BASC knock a tenner off if you only want to be an airgun member, makes it £52.00 so granted that is a lot more than BASA but I would rather know its going to work. Frankly I gave them the full £62.00 as I intend to buy shotties soon anyway.
David BASC
At BASC we want to do much more for airgunners, with more on our web site and more in the mag. BASC cost more than double BASA, but BASC is a different package - we are actively involved in political lobbying and working with the police and land owners for example, something that BASA simply are not resourced to do. BUT BASA is cheap I grant you. David

If you wanted to bring airgunners over to you, why not motion the bods upstairs to lower the joining fee, for the first year, or whatever. BASA is much cheaper than BASC, but that does not mean that they offer less value in the product.
David BASC
BASC will not compete on price- BASC aims to compete on value for money. I will continue to do my best to be open and honest about the BASC package - including where it needs improvement BASA is vet low cost compared to BASC and if people want to buy into BASA than that is fine - at least they are insured! Althouhg you do not need to join a shooting association to get insured of course. As it had been mentioned that BASC costs much more than BASA, my post was to point out why this was, i.e. we do not just offer insurance, you get magazines, help and advice, and other stuff with BASC.. and indeed we want to offer more to airgunners. Most of the associations offer more than just insurance, and I think it is fare to point this out so people can make a more informed choice, and not just think that all you get when you join an association is insurance – surely that makes sense? TuftySnuffer
And to throw a third hat into the ring; Has anybody tried the countryside alliances shooting insurance yet? I'm about to renew mine as I've got back into it again, I have permission pending to shoot on an airfield (Has a load of trailers on it which would be costly if accidentally hit - Considering the WDA/MEB/Backstop of even an airgun) but am wondering which agency. Comments anyone? Regards Tufty
David BASC
Yep they offer £10 M third party liability cover as well. All the shooting organisations offer insurance, Some of them will even let you know fully what is covered before you become a member by giving you a copy of the policy- personally I would never buy insurance before I had seen the policy – no matter how cheap the offer was - don't want nay nasty surprises when I make a claim! But make sure you join the association that fits you best, that gives you want you need, and that you are confident will always be there to help you if and when you need it. sirusman
Do not be fooled by the flannel you get ,there is very little difference between BASC and the rest apart from the constant sales pitch and that is from a BASC member who has just joined SACS so i do have a right to comment

12gdaz
I am new to this sport but to me insurance jumped straight out as being just as important as a shotgun. I chose BASC as not only does their insurance seem comprehensive, but they also seem to put so much back into promoting shooting as a sport this can only be a good thing surely. A win, win partnership methinks

David BASC
Although I applaud people taking the time and care to get them selves insured, we must all remember that not least of all because we are responsible citizens, shooting accidents are very rare – based on 13 years of insurance claim data I would estimate that there is one shooting accident per year per 2500 shooters – and most of these a relatively small property damage claims. So do take care if you insurance policy has an excess on it for property damage! But seriously, it is much more important to look at what the association you are joining offers you and what they deliver to safeguard your sport. There are lots of organizations to choose from ranging in price from just under £20 to just over £60 - so you are literally spoilt for choice. The big advantage these days is that we have the web – so you can check out the organizations on line, see what they are up to, see what they do and see how up to date they are and how relevant their work programs and objectives are to you and then use this to help you make your decision. Of course there is always feedback from your friends as well; the best adverts for any organization are their current members! We are all different and we all need & want different things- which is great, as all the associations offer different things and satisfy different needs so join the association that fits you best, and lets all accept that no everyone is going to necessarily agree with your choice – just like we are not all going to drive the same car or drink the same beer (not at the same time of course!) monkeyjaimz
I was with BASA a long time ago - purely for the insurance, i'm now with BASC, for the insurance aspect and also to give support to my sport
