dazza
Would anybody advise buying a speed controller for my magnet? Is the speed its set at suitable for all outings?
johnny
I dont think a speed controller is important if yours is the wiper motor type it will have two speeds anyway, saying this I have one but only as I have a flapping kit so need to slow it down a bit or I find it doesnt work properly. spend the money on more lead or coys shoot to kill john
Jonnyni
Do you think its too fast Dazza? Do you think its a fault?
dazza
No, its dead on, just wondered if you needed to set the speed for different conditions
Jonnyni
No mate I wouldn't even bother, just turn the thing on and get in the hide, we use the same speed all year round. The only time the speed changes is when the batery starts to die.
jonno 357
I bought a speed controller off ebay £20. Use it all the time with the pigeon magnet I can reduce RPM from 0- full RPM Jonno
Will Beasley
Now dont get the wrong end of the stick here folks just cos I sell pigeon shooting gear but take it from someone who's spent more time making, selling & using Pigeon Magnets for the last 7 years........ you WILL need a speed controller for use in some conditions. That is a well established fact. Speed controllers are a neccessity for some conditions but not all, but more importantly if you sell yourself short and dont buy one you'll kick yourself if you get into a situation in the field where your magnet is spooking everything cos its too fast. In my experience I have found that the general rule is the windier or colder the conditions the faster you want the machine going. The stiller the day or warmer the day the slower you want it going. MikeOxlong
Hi Mallinson, Your electronic device is for your flapper only. It is NOT to be used on your pigeon magnet as you will burn the timer out! As to the speed controller thread, I have found that in the summer time slowing the machine down does improve its pulling power. Dont be tempted to use a resistor or longer wire to slow it down as this will cause your battery to drain faster, use a speed controller from UKSHOOTHOUSE these have circuit in them designed for the job that will not increase the battery drain and therefore gives you more shooting time S.B
Deako
Speed controllers?...don't need 'em for standard magnets, but can be useful for the flapping versions to slow things down a bit. http://www.##############/?page=show-item&item=
