Newsportshooter
In general: Rifle shooting - One eye shut, scope eye 'obviously' open Shotgun Shooting - both eyes open. With the latter if you find yourself always closing one eye and it effects your shooting when you try to keep both open then shoot with one eye closed. Go with whatever works for you really
poontang
As long as you have no eye dominance problems, it's better to shoot shotgun with both eyes open. Easier to judge speed and distance. If, however you find it easier with one eye shut, carry on.

Harnser
nerooo , With both eyes open you will have a wider field of view .A bit like looking through a telescope and a pair of binos . Bar having the wrong eye dominant you should try and shoot with both eyes open . I shoot all guns with both eyes open even a scoped rifle . Its a tecnique that needs to be learnt . In the good old days when we had pistols i used to shoot them with both eyes open . Also i shot all target rifles both eyes open . Give it a try for a while and see how you get on . Harnser . dogfox
both open if using a shotgun, as if you close eye it halves your field of vision, one closed if rifle shooting
Mannlicher Stu
do i need to close my left eye when i am shooting or they should be both of them open? as i think with one eye close is much better what do u think? tanks a lot. When target rifle shooting both eyes are open by closing one eye it stresses the the other eye which tries to compensate for any stigmatism in or not which both eyes have become accustomed to with both eyes being used together this elimintates this possibility
THEINVISIBLESCARECROW
One eye for me.
southernlad
Both eyes open until target picked up, then mount to shoulder and close one eye at the same time... BANG. Another ounce of lead shot winging its way towards open blue sky... Seriously though, it works best for me as I have an eye cross-dominance problem. Practice enough and you'll find out what works best for you. SL
TheHunter
Shotguns, both eyes open unless you have a left\right dominance problem
