pigeon master
Hello all, Just a quick note, to remind people, new too the game or not, the importance of shot placement. For the young guys who take up shooting I want to stress that we owe it to our quarry that the shot you take will kill the animal humanely. Get out there in an open field with targets at different ranges and improve your knowledge of where your rifle shoots at different ranges, it’ll improve your skills and after plenty of practice you will know exactly where your piece of lead will strike. Skinned a rabbit the other day and found an old wound .22 airgun slug in the *** of the rabbit, some might say it’s just a rabbit, I say if your not 100% sure you’re capable of making the kill then don’t take it. I take pride at the fact I never have runners, that’s because I know when I squeeze that trigger the quarry wont even know its been hit. I know when your young your main goal is to bag something when you can, but I can promise you, your days shooting will be filled with happiness and good memories if you ensure that you’re not a gun that injures, you’re a gun that is accurate, skilled, and deadly. Ferret Master
Nice words that I'm sure we can all learn something from but you never have runners??? Do you shoot flying birds with a shotgun? FM
humperdingle
I've shot a rabbit with my HMR... Ripped it's heart literally out ouf the exit hole, left a huge hole in it's chest, and it still managed to scramble 15 yards. Perfectly placed heart shot, but it was still technically a "Runner". Of course it's ideal to have 100% perfect placement, but the laws of nature don't always do what we'd like them to. Nice post, though. Lloyd90
I understand what you mean mate, I wouldnt use a air rifle to shoot a rabbit in the **** lol! I would use an air rifle aslong as its within range but after using one I put in for a 22LR as its more humane and ensures a better kill You can never ensure your guna get a 100% clean kill, but you can do your best (hence me ditching the air rifle n getting the rimfire ) But at Humperdingle as shown you can only ever do your best!
pigeon master
LOL Ferret Master haha i didnt say i never get a flyer...that would give me real bragging rights if that was true. Yeah I know theres always a chance of a runner but i love it when i hear that there are guys in the sport that do their best to make it clean...everytime. Glad to hear you changed your setup Bigthug, .22LR's are just the job for Rabbits, as anyone who owns one knows very well. The PM
