Dougy
I wrote to the fire arms ladies the other day to ask for a variation on my ticket for a Mod for my 30.06, also for Deer to be put on, as i'm off stalking in Jan and have Deer on one of my permissions Any way i get a message on the answer phone. At work ( they have my personal number) asking if its for a 30 cal or a 30.06 I think i had better give them a ring this morning and get it sorted Surley they have a little knowledge of the job. or am i being to presumptuous
Dunkield
I think the people, mainly ladies, at HQ have very little knowledge - but you would expect there to be someone there who knows what they are on about that they could ask

Breastman
If the civilianisation of your firearms department was anything like mine when they conducted the interviews/sift the application forms any mention of an interest in or any previous knowledge of firearms and your app would be instantly binned. And if you apply and you have your own FAC or SGC you've just wasted a load of paper and ink! A former police FLO shoots at my clay club and has been telling me of some of the ridiculous questions he still gets from the civvies even though they've been 'trained' (this consists of a paint-by-numbers 5 day course), e.g. What is the difference between a rifle and a shotgun, whats the difference between a bullet and a round etc etc Added to that the pay is normally around the £15k mark so theres only whipper-snappers that apply and they have no actual interest in the job. And these are the people who are helping to try to sniff out potential Michael Ryans and Thomas Hamiltons Its a bit of a worry! Mark

Not my hand writing well you managed to read it. I gave them a ring, there's more to it. The variation is ok for the mod and the ticket is in the post, BUT they have not put deer on, they apprantly didnt notice that bit of the letter, which was the next paragragh down so will have to return the ticket and await for a land check, and, a visit. from flo. Not that fussed as long as it comes back before i go in jan

Don't get me wrong, the speed at which variations etc are issued at Durham are v quick, and the girl that looks after my part of the County does know what she's talking about but some of the others are, well a bit 'special' Glad to hear Northumbria has sorted itself out, when i first got my FAC i heard nothing but horror stories about them.
