Andy W
That said, someone at my local ground stood there, shot his clays and walked off, leaving the spent shells on the floor - that really did not impress me. I know that with a semi there isn't much that you can do, but at least pick them up afterwards, surely? I must admit I have forgot to pick up on occassion usually when there is a que behind you getting bigger all the time or you only have time to pick up a couple before someone has jumped in the stand, if there is only 2 of you in your team and a que, you have just shot, you need to put your gun away, pick up the carts, releive your mate of the button and score cards so he can get his gun out and get on the stand and the que is getting bigger and you are under pressure and a lapse of concentration makes you forget about your carts, easily done. throdgrain
I pretty much only shoot clays these days , and dont own a o/u I mostly shoot my Benelli M2 fitted with a sling. Sounds incongruous, but when you have a flag in as well surely no-one can arguing that its not loaded and its not pointing at anyone. This is a picture taken at my local clay shoot. You cant argue that the guns pointed at anyone. I've only ever had one comment, which was when I was wearing an old cammo jacket , some old women said something like "does he think he's in the army", but never mind. I'd like to shoot my Mossberg 500 more at clays too, and have done at several places, though Horne didnt seem very impressed which is a shame as it will stop me going there. clayman
As for camo clothing, (as others have mentioned it), if you turn up at a major shoot wearing Camo you will not be allowed to shoot, as it contravenes the CPSA code of conduct on appropriate dress. Cat. Whats not widely known, is that the CPSA Dress code only applies to Major Championships, ie selection shoots and above. If you read the rules closely you will see it does not apply to std registered shoots, although it is generally considered that its not "on form" to use camo gear at any formal competition, but at hay bale and fun practice shoots nobody is going to be too bothered. As Cat says, its all down to the safety of the holder of the gun, and if you use an S-A, have an auto-safe flag for it, latch back the bolt if the gun type allows it, carry it vertically open chamber forward, or sleeve it with flag in place, and please collect your empties afterwards and bin 'em. If you are seen to have good gun handling and shoot ground etiquette, you will be treated with respect regardless of the colour of your gun or clothes. Edward
Whilst we are on the subject of leaveing emptys. At the clay shoot that I go to they have this fence, and your not supposed to go beyond it, but sometimes my carts go beyond that fence. should I leave them??? Thanks Oh and I shoot with a S/A and nobody cares. I dont see whats wrong with camo. viking
There's nothing wrong with semi autos at Sporting clay shoots, some of the best shots in the business now use them, and the colour is completely irrelevent, what really matters is that anybody using one is seen to be safe. They are best kept in slips until it's your turn to shoot, then put straight back in the slip. I'm not a great believer in those silly flag things that are supposed to show the gun is empty. As for camo clothing, (as others have mentioned it), if you turn up at a major shoot wearing Camo you will not be allowed to shoot, as it contravenes the CPSA code of conduct on appropriate dress. Quite rightly so, IMHO, (and I'm the biggest fan of Realtree at the right time & place), but it just doesn't look right at a serious clay shoot. Cat. im with cat on this one, all wise words, i would also add that i dont really think there a good idea for shooting dtl, i was at the side of one lad once shooting one at dtl, i lasted 3 shots before i asked him politely, are you gonna be sending spent cartridges my way all day, he then laughed as if i was joking, its at this point i had to tell him i wasnt and that he should go borrow a club gun, he saw where i was coming from and all went well, lee Edited December 18, 2008 by viking
Wiggum
There's quite a few chap's who shoot semi's at my local shoot and it doesn't bother anyone in the slightest there's even a few who turn up fully camo'd up including there semi's. The only thing that has got on my threpeny bit's  is a chap who put 4 cartridges  up his semi and shot 2 pair's in a row.I assume he thought he was saving abit of time but i would rather he take abit more time in the stand instead of potentially walking round with a loaded gun. Not to mention he was breaking club rule's about havin more than 2 cartridges in his semi.Im not anti S/A infact im considering getting one (xtrema 2 in camo) for pidgeon shooting but with a O/U you can only ever get 2 cartridges in at the same time

ironduke
on the subject of dress... one of the funniest sights ive seen was at a clay shoot a couple of years back. not a flash job, a bit more than straw bales but not much. anyway this one guy turned up in a full 4 piece tweed shooting suit... i did have to do a double take, never seen it before or since. jayward
i don't care if people are in camo and shoot semi auto have ou ,sbs even if there in a clown suit , As long as they don't point ANY gun my way !!! its happed a few times in the time i have been shooting and they have been all manor of guns closed ou /sbs and semi auto lets face it theres some tools around , Ive even been waiting in behind a stand and some FOOL came out of the stand with a semi auto pointing it all over the show his pal promptly grabbed it and ejected a chambered shell !!! i wanted to put him on his *** right there in fact i don't know how i didn't !!!! In my view its about consideration something some people just inherently lack (well i suppose they could just be stupid ) if you have a semi auto and take the time to carry/handle it correctly i cant see a problem. Lets face it its all about attitude and consideration i see plenty inconsiderate intolerable morons flouncing around the club as if they own the world ejecting there shells all over the place no muzzle awareness generally impolite and on the whole they cant shoot for **** Its normaly on competition days ! I look upon them with contempt and have no time for them whatsoever , its a shame but theres just people like this around in all walks of life and little can be done for them ... Im just glad there the exception and the majority know how to be careful dignified and polite ... Get ya semi in camo and be considerate and muzzle aware and you will have no issues well not from people with an ounce of sense ...
