wildman
Hi to a newcomer does 28" or 30" barell make a lot of difference, gun i picked up today felt really nice ,but was a 28"barell and i'm 6ft 4".
LeeinVA
The 30" might give you an addition 50 fps and hold the shot together a little longer.. You would not want to use the 30" shooting Wood Cock or Grouse in thick brambles, but you would use 30+ for Duck and Goose.. Its like matching the barrel to the condition.. The other comment you have made is something you must always consider? The gun felt good!! How the gun feels is important.. You couldnt hit an Ostrich on the wing at 10 meters if the thing doesnt fit you..
Tis1979
Well put Leeinva, I think if it fits then happy days your new to shooting so chances are your clay or Pigeon shooting so 28" will do fine.
pair away
you will get a different answer on this at every shoot you go to , but as the other two guys have said its all down to how YOU feel with each different gun , if the 28 feels right for you then thats the one you should have , try them all and pick the one you are happiest with . Newsportshooter
Hello mate, I'm 6'00 and went for a Beretta which has a 30 3/4 inch barrel - Not to bad for shooting clays but, for pigeons, I really, really wish I'd gone for a shorter barrel (28" etc). The amount of times I've got the barrels caught in the foliage of the hide.

Exactly why I shoot a 26" (6'2"BTW)
LeeinVA
I see a few of you gents have listed you physical heights? Was that done because you have trouble finding a thumbhole stock that will fit your longer trigger length, or your eye relief? I am affected in both instances as well.. BTW i am 6'5".. and i shoot a remington 870 Wingmaster with a 32" barrel for water fowl, and 28" for trap, and 26" for Grouse and such.. The gun is not top notch in looks, and she is long in the tooth, but my god does she fit like a glove!! You cant miss when a gun feels like its a part of you..
