Huntinlass
I have been to quite a few shoots in my time-some big shooting estates and some little farm shoots, but no matter how big/small the shoot is the head gamekeeper always keeps a secret! How many people out there have asked a gamekeeper- How many birds you put down this year? and their reply is always How much money you got in your bank account? Sometimes you are in a converstaion and one of the beaters says how many you put down this year? the keeper will never say. The best bit is the under keepers. So how many birds yo put down this year we put 12000 partridge x 4000 phesants So to all you gamekeepers out there. Why don't you say how many birds you put down? peck
Poachers would be very interested in this info
tomtommckinnon
keepers wont tell you how many birds they have put down because if they have put down thousands of birds and only 5 or 6 come out a drive he will look bad for loseing his birds. lurcherboy
Keeping everyone guessing honeybum You don't become one and tell every **** what's really going on do you? 5 years on the go for mickey mouse money and you want to know the ins and outs Probably the worst place in the shooting fraternity not that any one would notice. Magus69
I used to either use Thoms' reply of "enough" or say "it's not the amount of birds we have put down you need to think about but the amount of birds we put up". nipper
HA HA !!! GOOD QUESTION ? So when people ask "what pecentage do you shoot ?" , the answer is X % of what the boss thinks he has paid for !lol It beats me how anyone can work out a national average ??lol Most people have little disaster funds tucked under the bed somewhere . So do us keepers ,except its a few pheasants . How long is a piece of string ?

Orkney Gun
Often keepers will not say for many reasons but here on our Scottish Estate we dont mind (as the guests of his Grace) are well ..... in need of spectacles. We managed 8,000 pheasant, 2000 partridge, and never bothered with the Grouse as we have quite a large stock already.Too many keepers will not tell you for reasons they keep to themselves..Poaching in particular..But here we dont get them, as the island is isolated and we know each other and you would stand out like a igloo in the sahara..... Orkney Gun
Bet you dont say that to the "syndicate/owner/his lordship" when asked and he says "where are they all I paid for then" "foxslayer"Why should you hide the number from a poacher.. If hes about you CATCH him ..he will come anyway..no matter how many birds/deer/rabbit/salmon etc you have on the estate... Whats to be afraid of.... IF YOU ARE A KEEPER.... then KEEP. do your job.
