pigeon controller
Following a phonecall from a farmer again stating there were 100's of pigeons on his rape. When we got there they were all on the clover next to the rape and sitting in the trees between it. Has any other member got pigeons that have a preference for clover over rape?? Ended up the day with 66 in the bag but they were difficult to decoy. Stealth Stalker
Good bag fella I'm of the opinion that rape is the last resort for a pigeon If there's anything more nutritional & easy they'll prefer that. SS
Catamong
I'll second that, they'll fill up on Acorns, Beechmast and Ivy berries in preference to rape. Cat.
Highlander
Yep I'll third that. Anything is preferable to rape which is just a subsistence diet for Woody and helps keep them alive (and well) through the winter. That's one of the reasons (probably the main one) why the population is exploding. Bit early for clover though unless it's started to sprout in your area. henry d
Strangely enough I spooked 20-30 woodies today as I drove past a field gate, the only food that was there was beech due to the large tree on one side of the gate. There were several rape fields nearby, without a bird on them As the guys say, rape is survival food.............hooray for rape.
