mikee
as with decoying on any field the pigeons need to be using it, the only advantage with drilled fields is the deeks stand out better and you can pull birds of a flight line a bit better than other crops, but if they aren't there you cant decoy them mikee
Cranfield
With todays drilling systems I would be there the day after the drilling. Not much is spilt and the birds clean up what is very quickly.
Blackbart
Must be a lot drier where you are as i doubt very much wheather anything will be put in here in a fortnights time. The snow and frost will still be here in some places. One good thing from a decoying point of view is that because of the wet summer/winter the usual 40-50 fields of rape on my permissions has been drasticly cut to about 6 !because they couldnt get on to sow it. If he does get on,i would go the next day because as cranfield said it will be gone in 24-48 hours.
bobby dazzler
thanks lads the only reason i ask is that the field is fifty miles away from my house so its not as if i can pop down the road to keep an eye on it looks like shoot it the day after is favorite
MerseaDavid
Yeah I would shoot it as soon as it is drilled because you wont have much time before the birds have cleared the field. You might get some crow shooting a few days after, but there wont be many pigeons left on it.
cocker3
you could ask the farmer to keep one eye on it and if the birds start to hit it get him to give u a call long way to go if the birds havent found it yet
MerseaDavid
When it comes to drilling farmers dont always have the time to keep their eye on the fields because it is starting to get busy now. (drilling, spraying, fertilizing etc) but it is always worth asking.
