Vagabond
Well, I've been unable to shoot for a while due to an injury, which has been a minor setback. Each day I would sit and stare at the plethora of woodies go by, or count the number of bunnies in the fields (best count 58 in less than 30 mins). Yes! You can only guess how itchy my trigger finger has been. Not been able to get out to the fields, as walking any distance is off the menu at the mo. I decided what the hell, bring them to me..... So I set up my Deeks in the back garden. To attract them give em some food and some friends for reasurance.... Set up the HIDE...... ( compleate with camo netting). Sit in front of the radiator with a nice mug of tea...... Nice and cozy.... I baged Two in less than 15 mins. Who says Woodies on Deeks with an air rifle is hard? Sctatch that.... make it three! Damn it's like been at the fair! Edited February 11, 2009 by Vagabond

Vagabond
Any chance of me coming over to help keep that bunnie count down? Sure why not.............! Taking advantage of a man while he's down...... sheeeesh! I think I'll let the little ******* breed as much as possible, because I'm going to have a field day with them soon. I've been getting them used to vehicles so I can sit in comfort and get the main ingredients for rabbit pie. But thanks for the offer. ps: I'll put up some pics soon
Erik Hamburger
Hmm. I am pleased you are enjoying it - and I hope you will eat the birds you kill. However, I just wondered if you are aware that it is illegal to shoot woodpigeons in your back garden unless they are causing economic damage to you, and you have tried all possible other methods to chase them off your land first, before shooting them? I would be the last person to cause trouble for you - however in the event a neighbour, postman or visitor or "friend" takes offence and reports you to, for example, the RSPB, you may well find that the WILL try to collect evidence, and that they WILL try to prosecute you. I would be interested to hear from anybody if you think I am wrong.
J@mes
*thinks back to the £2300 fine and 12month suspended jail sentence handed out recently for killing birds outside of the general license*
Vagabond
Thanks for the concern. My back garden leads onto an several acres of farmland which is one of my permissions, and the woodies are destroing my own veg patch. The pellet is unable to leave my property. The area in which I shoot in is securely protected by 6" solid fence and a locked gate. If said postie is in this part of the garden he's got to bring his own ladder to climb 2 fences and he's along way off from where he usualy delivers post. And Yes I will be eating them. Bleeh
You pretty much are breaking the law here, sorry. There was a simular case like this a while ago, with some chap shooting pigeons with his son, he got fined a hefty amount.
asap
Im not trying to have a dig at you mate as you say they are from the field behind you and eating ya veg so fair play but i love to see pigeons in my garden and feed them too. If im honest they would be great to eat as they are in lovely condition and are as big as ducks. I find it kind of nice to spend all day chasing them around, then to drive back into the yard and be greeted by a couple of woodies sitting on the fence not worried by a anything. Maybe im turning soft in my old age
amateur
You pretty much are breaking the law here, sorry. There was a simular case like this a while ago, with some chap shooting pigeons with his son, he got fined a hefty amount. The chap admitted "aiding, abetting and counselling his son to kill the wild bird" and did not defend the charge. Reading the general licence rules, I believe that anyone with a level of common sense should be able to contest a prosecution for a clean kill of a wood pigeon on his own property - where pigeons have been going at the veggies, you have some foil birdscarers up and you are not allowing a minor to do the shooting. dan222
Hi all Those woodies look like the same plastic ones as mine/don;t taste vrey nice ,/ cannot see any other evidence of any missdoing from that evedance in the photo / canot see whot the fuss is about no evedance NO charge/
smsguitarist
Yep no problem mate. I do the same thing in mine. Sit in front of a nice warm radiator and pick off the woodies/jackdaws that are causing problems for the 'vegi patch' and other birds. Cat loves them both but i save most of the woodies for my mum who loves them. keep it up mate Lewis

redkite
I rang the Police on this subject and was told categorically that I CAN shoot wood pigeons (and corvids) in my own back garden, The General Licence of Exemption applies and the conditions are basically twofold:- You have to own the land (or have landowners permission) You are shooting to prevent disease, damage to crops etc.... I can only assume that some of the prosecutions involved people who didn't know about the exemption. If you simply say that you were shooting woodies because you were bored then you will be prosecuted!!!!
