Toombsy
The last time I posted I was strugglign to get close to a huge flock of pigeons tearing up some linseed. Well... they are still there, but this morning there was another gun set up under the hawthorn trees, where I set up last time. So after a little driving around I thought I would dig myself in at the end of a long strip field and try to get the remnants from the flight line. When I pulled up into the nearest layby to the field I can shoot on, there was a truck parked there. So, I walked over to the chap and asked if he was going out there to shoot the pigeons. "No, I own this rape filed... I was just putting some crow bangers out to". After a long chat he said it would do him a great favour if I shot over his land too, with shotgun and rifle. Another 300 acres to play on! A great start to the day. I settled in at the very end of his field, as close as I could get to the linseed, but it just wasn't my session. The pigeons were right at the far end, well away. Had two shots in the first hour and bagged two crossers, then took a walk around the new permission with a couple of cartridges and spooked a bunny. Another shot and had him too. 100 percent hits today, so pleased with that. Here's some photos over the next few posts of the day and what I found from previous guns... bloody disgrace. It only takes a minute to pick up after you've finished - and that lot's not on in my book. Edited February 28, 2009 by Toombsy

garyb
Nice post.. One tip... your pattern looks too "uniform"... Don't have all the deeks in one neat line facing the same way - split them up point them all over the place, and make sure their placed roughly in a wide horseshoe shape. Think, how many times have you seen feeding pigeon that look like their part of an army drill ?
Beardo
nice work fella i'll add to Gary's comment, pigeons tend be more spaced apart on drillings/ploughed fields as opposed to the tight feeding patterns on rape
