Toombsy
Well done mate. Get skeet mastered and it'll give you a good grounding for a lot of sporting layouts

mdc124
Twas windy today - i found the birds that were blown off target were easier to hit than the ones that flew straight awkward **** (all round) Edited March 8, 2009 by mdc124
throdgrain
First time I ever shot skeet, a few years ago, I hit 19 with my Mossberg pump action. Every one said I was going to be great. Today I hit 21 with a semi-auto. Not what you'd call a HUGE improvement ...
pennywise
awsome keep it up! i had the same luck last week 10 years away from shootin and hit 16/25! throdgrain would you recommend skeet with a pump action ? i love the idea but the bloke who took me out last week on me shoot reckons they`re for americans in the wild west ! i disagree with him big time! mikee
Well done mate.Get skeet mastered and it'll give you a good grounding for a lot of sporting layouts  toombsy's spot on there, skeet targets are easy enough but its a great lesson in feet positioning and where to hold the gun, keep at it mikee

Well mate the truth of the matter is we live in England. A land where people don't only have thier own opinions, they expect other people to have thier opinions too Would I recommend a pump action for skeet? No not really, it just makes it harder. Would I recommend a pump action as a shotgun? Yes, more than any other style in many ways. They arnt expensive, then are amazingly reliable (much more so than even the most reliable semi-auto) and well, they are just good fun to use. I shoot clays 99% of the time, and I shoot a lot, and rarely do I get any anti comments about my guns, though I must say I shoot my Benelli most of all. When I started shooting shotguns I listen to all the advice and bought a Winchester 101 over/under. I was of course completely new to shooting moving targets in those days, but I never really got on with it, and try as hard as I might I never really liked it. Then I bought the Mossberg and immediately started breaking clays. That wasnt because it was a pump action of course, it was probably because the gun fitted me better. But importantly, when I looked at the gun, I liked what I saw. I liked (and still like) how the gun works, and how it feels. Oddly enough some years later I'm now debating with myself about buying another O/U, maybe a 682 Beretta, to go with my other guns. But I somehow just haven't got round to it yet  Edited March 11, 2009 by throdgrain
pennywise
i agree with you mate, o/u `s are nice and smooth and all that but the p/a is more like a proper tool the look, the action everything about is simplistic
DaveH
My girlfriend and I tried skeet for the first time a few weeks ago and now we're completely hooked........ We've been really lucky as some really good skeet shooters have taken us under their wings and our scores are creeping up (I started on 14 and best so far is 21, but now I'm trying to relearn pulling through and they're dropping below 20 again ). Cheers Dave
Peter De La Mare
Why are you changing? I use maintained for pretty much everything.
mikee
stick to maintained lead, it will give you more time on each target, its the best way to shoot game as well when you['ve sussed it out mikee

It certainly makes more sense than the bushwhacking style I seem to have fallen into recently........ I'll give it a try next weekend. Cheers Dave I'm in exactly the same boat as you. I shot my first proper round of skeet at christmas and was getting 12 - 15 out of 25. A few weeks ago managed 21 two weeks on the trot and thought I'd got it sorted. Then last couple of weeks its back to the mid/high teens. I think part of my problem has been that I keep taking my head of the stock to watch the clay break. The other part has been over competitiveness with the two guys I shoot with. If I hit everything up to the singles on station 3 then once I miss one here I invariably miss everything on stations 4 and 5. I have had a go at American skeet and think station 8 is a cracker - not enough time to think. K
