  1. 15 on Saturday. Mostly whilst they were flighting by and ignoring the decoys. 16,973
  2. Orston is about 45 minutes away. If you book shooting through centre parks you'll probably go to Oxton. Mostly skeet but does have a fitasc layout. If you fancy some local sporting try cocketts farm.
  3. I listened to the bluetones 'if' for the first time In years. Choon!
  4. As already said John Norris of Penrith is worth a try. Also try sportfish as they always have some good deals on and eBay is worth a look. The rod and the line should be where you focus your money. I always like snowbee lines as they are supple and really easy to cast however they're not the cheapest. Airflo lines don't have a great reputation and once you've cast with something else you'll never want to touch one again however you should be able to get a good deal on one over the internet. Also if you are starting out and practicing casting then your first line won't last very long. You mention fishing local lakes so something like a 9' - 9' 6" long 6 or 7 weight should do. Sportfish have their own brand which can be cheap or Ron Thompson however I have found both difficult to get on with. I borrowed an abu recently and was impressed and don't think it cost a lot at all. Flies wise on a still water you won't go far wrong with damsel, gold ribbed hares ear, diawl bach, pheasant tail nymph, klinkhamer and some caddis imitations. Hope this helps K
  5. Things seem to be up round here too. Manufacturing, higher education and a bit of commercial seem to be the sectors we're picking up most from. Also our qs department is doing very well out of retail. We could really do with recruiting but the upturn is probably still not robust enough to justify the risk.
  6. Try holding onto his lower jaw when he bites. It worked with my pup who was a horrendous biter at first (I had cuts all over my hands). She's now 11 months old and probably would have grown out of it anyway but this has got to be a better alternative to hitting a pup.
  7. mine's always been in a crate from day one and now she will actually run to it and get in when she wants to sleep - its in the garage and she will even run to it in the freezing cold temperatures we are having now. Moving house soon so can give her a proper kennel. Its not cruel and they do think of it as their den.
  8. I noticed that with mine. If I threw two out she would always pick the white one first before going back for the orange. No matter which order I threw them in she went straight for the white one. When sent back for the orange she sometimes ran over it before picking up the scent.
  9. i've been having the same problem with my black lab. Looking at your signature mine was born the day before yours so they are virtually identical in age! i worked only on the delivery for a week or so. virtually handed her the dummy and when she had held it for a while took it back off her following the release command. if she held it and gave when told she got plenty of praise. if she dropped it i said nothing but picked the dummy up and gave it back to her. if she shook it or ran round with it i told her off. only just started back with the retrieving and, although its too early to say for definite, it does seem to be getting better. although the snow here has made her regress back to a mental age of about 4 weeks!
  10. This is one to remember the next time a spaniel owner is having a dig at those of us with pipe and slipper dogs!
  11. a used and discarded nappy - and they have a go at us when there is dog ***** on the penalty spot at the local park.
  12. he does have a rabbit pen. not sure what it would be per hour just to hire - probably £15-20ish. location is in ossington about 5 mins off the a1 north of newark.
  13. Try Fallowfen Gundogs near Newark. I was there today trying to gee my lab up a bit. Tel: 01636 821600 | Mobile: 07749 807816
  14. pretty slow (for me but others had sport) but it was great to be out as dawn broke. going again next week hopefully i'll be in luck that time. K

Nice dog and congratulations on an excellent choice of name...i've got one very similar only slightly smaller!
  16. Bag is packed and by the door. alarm set for 3.30am just got to remember to get gun out of cabinet and chuck in the back of the vehicle. hopefully I'll have woken up by the time I reverse off the drive.
  17. we are all meeting at 4.30am - i've got a nightmare of a day of work tomorrow but who cares. apparently there have been loads of geese around recently.
  18. what are they like at retrieving? Could be good wildfowling dogs
  19. There's a guy that walks one near me I occasionally see - at first and from a long long way away I thought "now that is a big german shepherd". My 4 month old lab took a shine to it and decided to have a bit of socialisation. It was only when I got close that I realised just how big it was. Soft as anything would even put up with my dog jumping on it - in fact I'd say he was encouraging her. K
  20. Nice. Looks nearly as big as mine that is twice that age!
  21. I agree with the above. I found something similar to what you are looking for through guns on pegs. they do have some £10k per season syndicates but they also cater for the smaller stuff. K
  22. That's a fact. My pup only has two gears full steam ahead and asleep although I am trying to introduce the calm gear.
  23. The bbc (channel 1) - who else?
