Si-Bore
Hey guys I have been struggling recently with the 35-40m slow moving pigeon over the decoys, especially when there is ground in the background rather than sky. I have no problem at that range high up but I find it hard to judge the lead when there is ground behind the bird. Does anyone else find this? If so how did you remedy it? I am getting a puff of feathers each time and I am presuming I am not giving them enough lead or not swinging through enough. Cheers, Si

MerseaDavid
maybe your just a bad shot That is abit over the top. Some people do struggle with these shots because the bird is constantly changing it's line of flight. Alot of people tend to shoot over the top of these birds or behind. You just need more practice and you will get there.

Me and my friend are going to set up the clay trap at 40m and throw a sequence of slow birds low to the ground and see if we can improve on the hit rate. Practice makes perfect. anser2
Just a thought Si , I treat low ground hugging pigeons like crossing running rabbits. Get the gun infront of them and keep it there when you pull the trigger. I do not know what gun you use , but some O\Us are made to shoot a little high. Fine with an overhead bird ( gives you a bit more lead ) but usless if you are shooting down on a bird. Ballymac
At 40m ? is that not a bit far out, or have you the correct chokes in for this distance. Would have thought 25-30 yrds was a better killing range.

Put the shot in the right place and you'll get a stone-dead bird and it won't be shot to pieces!

I use a Urika which is setup to shoot to POA (50/50 above/below the bead). Regards Si At 40m ? is that not a bit far out, or have you the correct chokes in for this distance. Would have thought 25-30 yrds was a better killing range. I often kill birds easily at this range. I use 1/2 choke (which if I am honest is probably a bit too much but gives me confidence on longer shots) and use 32g of 6's cartridges. It is one of the only shots I seem to struggle with consistently. Cheers Si
