malamus
I,ve found a willing butcher to take spare pigeons off my hands (WOO HOO) but what are they worth. im sure location and time of year are relivent, so I'm near Chipping norton in Oxfordshire. I'm happy to crown them if need be, but i'm sure a butcher can handle that. How do you guys and girls deliver them, how many, how often, can you deliver frozen pigeon or is that a no-no and how much do you get for them, if you could include your location that would be great. The Butcher asked me how much I wanted for them, I said "going rate is fine" He said "about fffffff... whats the going rate" so I said " to be honest mate, it would just be nice to have the cost of cartridges covered" (21p each) but I wasn't thinking of misses (60%+ killrate) I'm certainly not out to make a profit, "this post steams from my last (what to do with spare pigeon)" Its just feels I can enjoy this sport more knowing the birds are not being wasted. Cheers in advance for your responses Matt
charlie 1
generally i get about 20p per pigeon frozen, in the feather. its up to your butcher how he wants them so you need to ask him that. but i will be very suprised if you ever break even with regards to cartridges used. any money you get for them is a bonus as you are getting rid of them to be put to good use rather than left in the field or thrown away. how many he wants is up to him but we fill up a large chest freezer then the game dealer picks them up so he collects around 200 ata time. that way it makes his trip worth while. hope this helps
MerseaDavid
It is down to how much he wants to pay, but I would say that 30p is a good price. You dont want to charge too much but then you dont want to be out of pocket.

activeviii
i get 90p for a good breast, the bad ones i just give him. you should get more from a butcher than you would a game dealer

You aren`t allowed to process them in anyway, unless you are licenced to do so, and he should know that, you have to sell "In the feather". Orkney Gun
Looks like ye down here are the ones who are "Tight in the sporran mon !" Or maybe its because that we dont have many birds up there,so we get a better price for them (£1 per bird).Local Restaurateur here uses em in the Haggis and serves a good breast pie he does.Pigeon might not be to the taste of the "English Folk"another reason why a low price given Anyway our local Restauranteur always..takes em when we get em.. As I said £1 bird Edited March 11, 2009 by Orkney Gun
