HMR V-Max devastation

Recommended Posts

I got my first HMR last week and when zeroing it on saturday i put 4 peices of 1" pine from a huge pallet at work chopped into 8 " squares and it pentrated the first 3 and half exited the fourth peice but had split it in half. This was at 80 yards !

They definatly pack a punch for small game such as bunnys. It was the plastic tip that stayed in contact most ! It came to rest in the 3rd peice of pine !

I also have the HMRs dad, the 17 Rem centre fire. It is also a 17 but is the centre fire. It also fires V Max bullets but in 25g It also has a bit more power at 933 ft lb and is just a bit quicker at 4100 ft / sec. I have it set to shoot 1" high at 100yds. Zero is 216 yds and it is 1.3" low at 250yds.

You should see the crows etc shot with that and foxes are just like a bag of jelly Even so, I still enjoy my little 16"CZ HMR.

woody,

The hornet will have a higher velocity with a heavier bullet than the HMR. That means that the hornet will have an extra 50-75 yards of point blank range and the energy carried will be far greater when it hits the terminal end.

The downside is that it is a louder round by a bit and it is a bit more expensive. If you decide to reload though, and if you are using a moderator then the disadvantages are far less. Reloading a hornet means cheaper than an HMR, and a sonic crack is a sonic crack.

Thanks

Rick
