Peter De La Mare
Clay shooters need hides?
CZ550Kevlar
Yep those clays can be a bit tricky if they spot you standing in that cage ready to ambush them.
Peter De La Mare
I'll have to try that, could be where I've been going wrong.
Windknot
Is that why some skeet shooters crouch before they call for the bird?
Blunderbuss
Wrong section easy done. Can any one help Andy instead of just taking the Mick? Coz I'm interested in the answer too!
CZ550Kevlar
Ok serious head on now, your best bet for a hide is to buy 4 hide poles and some cammo netting, you need something pretty thick that has quite abit of material strips on it, if you buy the thinner cheaper netting you can see through it really easily, i would recommend 4 metres long by 2 metres high, this will give you flexibility for size. If you are looking at the popup hides please don`t do it, they are terrible in wind, break and wear easily and are very cramped.
Windknot
Local to me Mole Valley Farmers sell the cheapest camo netting- I'm sure there's a farmer's co-op near you that does the same. That and some hide poles and you're good to go.
Paul@Ribchester
I got a cheap one off ebay and wished I hadn't, been out with people who use the stealth ghost cammo and that is what I will be buying next. Paul.
Cranfield
This thread has been moved here from the "Clay Shooting" section. I use ex MoD cammo nets , because I always have and they don't wear out. One snag is they are heavy to carry, but a good thing is that they don't blow around in the wind, like some of the lighter versions do. Take a look on the UKShootwarehouse website (link at top of page) and if you place an order don't forget to get your Pigeon Watch discount. The Burpster
Ok serious head on now, your best bet for a hide is to buy 4 hide poles and some cammo netting, you need something pretty thick that has quite abit of material strips on it, if you buy the thinner cheaper netting you can see through it really easily, i would recommend 4 metres long by 2 metres high, this will give you flexibility for size.If you are looking at the popup hides please don`t do it, they are terrible in wind, break and wear easily and are very cramped. Spot on really. The main idea is to get your camo as close to the surrounding foliage so that it doesnt look to 'new' to the birdies. If you have a permanent hide it can be whatever colour you like as they will get used to it. The hide is to mask your movement so it needs to big enough to do that, but if your putting it up for teh couple of hours that you're there it needs to work with teh surrounding foliage (or lack of in winter). I use HS camo leaf blinds in 3 differing colours (time of year....!) and have some MOD scrim on the front of them to break the 'plain sheet' look up a but. Its easy enough to take of and put on the sheets and looks and works awesome in the field.
