Topgunners
Hi All! Drove round all afternoon yesterday and couldn't find any worth setting up for. Out again today on the mooch for some feeding pigeons. Drove past 3 drilled fields(that we looked at yesterday) ;**** LAW, NOT OURS, and saw THOUSANDS, head down feeding and groups of 50's + dropping in like stones. After a couple of door knocks and 2 phone calls to our farmers we found out who owned the fields and shot round his farm straight away and introduced ourselves and asked if we could do a bit of shooting for him. He said yes and we set up one hide on the BEANS and one on the WHEAT and shot steady for 4hrs and ended up with 132 . 10 mile away 2 more of our group were set up on PEAS and only shot 15. PEAS 15 PEAS 15 ?????? Don't believe it. Weird or what? Anybody else had much joy this weekend? Dave K
Cranfield
Its usually a case of what has the Farmer left on the field, the pigeons don't go digging for the seeds. In my experience drilled cereal crops tend to have more "spillage", than peas and beans. Congrats on a good day.

mallinson
I went out yesterday aswell, doing the tour of the farms and didn't see hardly any woodies. none on the rape...................none on the beans etc etc. Time was getting on and then we saw a few landing onto a big field of grass and clover. shot 30 exactly in roughly 3hrs, should of hit more but didn't

old rooster
Thanks for the info TG, bit late in the day now as I'm planning to set off in about an hour, weather looking dodgy, forecast is for cloud but not rain (I hope they're right for once !!). old rooster
Just as well I didn't get anyone along to help, the farm has bought a new drill which leaves next to FA seed on the top. Set up for a few on Tuesday and ended up with 6, had another look today as the weather is ideal but the pigeons seem to have moved completely out of the area. Did a bit of local scouting around to no avail, pity as this farm produced several big bags last year and I was really looking forward to them drilling this year. Few more farms yet to do the odd bit of drilling then it will be away with the guns and more time spent riding the bikes and going trout fishing. It's been one of the worst pigeon shooting winters I can remember in this area, hope it's better next time !!
