pigeon shooting

Recommended Posts

Don and i were out on saturday, we are shooting over a field of peas. This is the first time in many years our local farmer has grown peas so the pressure is on to keep the grey horde at bay.

Don got to the field first and set up, he had an hours shooting on his own and had got 3.... when i arrived i let him continue shooting as he had to go soon and he managed to add another 1.

I checked his decoy pattern which was his usual haphazard sling 'em out affair so i reorganised it into a good horseshoe shape and waited do see what happened.

It didn't take long before the birds began to react more positively and i was soon approaching double figures in the grass in front of me. bracken made a spectacular retrieve on a runner returning with its wing beating her in the face yet when i checked the bird still not a tooth mark on it

As time passed i continued to add to the bag including two right and lefts. but with the majority singletons. I brought the birds straight in as they were shot and put them in the shade to cool. The birds came in streadily in ones and twos and bracken had her work cut out with a bird i shot at 40yds out 30yds up that landed some 70-80yds away however she soon had it to hand

As the steady stream of birds slowed i called a halt at around 2pm with 19 in the bag. A modest bag by some standards but i shot fairly straight and aged canine companion reminded how good she can be if a little slow now that advanced years are catching up on her, still did an excellent job on the runner and she still has enough drive for that last 20yds on the hot scent trail. thanks for reading GSAW

Hi lewis, there was a good wind blowing so it was quite tolerable.

Bracken is 13 this summer! As the years roll by it is a case of the mind willing but the body almost worn out with her but i will continue to take as long as she finds it comfortable... She howls at the door if i leave her behind HA HA HA

Now let's get it straight....

I got there before him cos he was too bone idle to get out of bed.

I shoots the first three that appeared, and then 'Jonah' Gonna rambles up with his bone idle, aged, mutt.

He criticises my delicate presentation of my decoy pattern; guzzles two ice-cold cans of my coke; his porky labrador refuses to accept any commands whatsoever, and then when said mutt stumbles over the dead pigeon (shot by me) he praises dog!

I then had to depart to look after ill wife, and then he posts on here as if he did all the work.

What a complete and utter waste of space - both of them!

Don

Ahhhhh the burden i bare being associated with a senile geriatric old ****!!

the coke was warm, dog fell asleep waiting for him to shoot something, and the only birds he can claim are the ones that fell out of the sky laughing at his outrageous decoy pattern.

Dons good lady is a paragon of good manners and taste who is alas injured in the line of duty ( looking after aforementioned old **** no doubt delivering another batch of tea and freshly home made chorley cakes to the ill tempered recluse in his shed!) and all he can do is whine and complain.... tsk tsk.... No doubt the tea was cold too by the time the ambulance arrived !!
