Billy.
I don't often read Gun Mart, but seeing as WHSmiths had run out of most others, I got it this month. It's actually loads better than I thought and I read a very interesting article about the relation between countries and whether they have a handgun ban vs. their death rate caused by gun crime. The statistics are too glaringly obvious to ignore:

Bleeh
that's not fair, is it. Luxembourgh has such a small population, that I could go a shoot someone a double is yearly murder rate. And russia is in a bite of a state at the moment (much more so than Poland, and Finland and norway, france and germany are first world) So of course crime rates are going to be souring there. And Belarus? - Firstly those statistics are 1990's - and it's Ex-USSR - so of course crime rates are going to be up towards the fall of the Soviet union. This is simply fidling numbers with random countries, and proves nothing.
utectok
beware of oversimplification there are many factors that affect murder rates and gun ownership is only one piece of a very big puzzle.
groach1234
Also it would be nice to see the statistics for the US on handgun related deaths. Having said this i feel that it is okay in the UK you can go for a section 5 if you feel you have a real need for it and, if you do it is likly to be granted if you are willing to go through all the hastle however if they were more widly avalable then they could do what the do in the US (or csi would have me believe ) and take a test shot before each gun is sold and put it into a data base then match them up for crimes. It works for csi it should work for us :look: George

As the murder rate is 9.1 I fail to see how you shooting one person will double the murder rate. 9.1 for a population of 486,000 is hardly insignificant. What cannot lie, and is infinetly more relevant is the fact that handgun crime in the UK has increased since the ban. Bleeh
http://www.statehealthfacts.org/comparemap...t=2&ind=113 Map of the Death by firearm statistics for the USA for 2005. Ranges from 2.2 to 23 per 100,000. Pretty sure that debunks any theory. What cannot lie, and is infinetly more relevant is the fact that handgun crime in the UK has increased since the ban. Ahh, but it didn't make the figures fall when they banned handguns did it? So it was a failure!! And if it was reversed do you think license holders would commit more armed crime than they do at the moment? I don't think so. A fairly spurious argument you are using. I think Licensed guns used in crime would stay at similar levels, as for illegally held firearms, I believe that the government have lost that battle. And what they are proposing for the shooting section of the olympics is stupid, just plain stupid. The "Ban" did not work so they should repeal that very poor piece of legislation. An argument which has been made against another hastily passed peice of poor legislation. ft
