hill billy
Hi i have recently just been given permission to shoot over a new farm, and i was talking to the farmer the other day and she told me that they have a bit of a bad fox problem, so i thought brilliant i have been out probably 8 or 9 times and every night i see about 3 or 4 foxes but they just don't want to know they completly egnor you when you squeek and then run off, so i think the only way for me to have any luck is to place a couple of high seats around the farm, i have found perfect places for them and have been given the go ahead to put them up. Now comes the problem, i like i few of you will not try to buy things such as spinners flappers peckers or floaters until i have given it a go to make one first and thank fully all my things have been successful. but to make a high seat maybe a bit more challenging than i thought so if any one has or knows were i could get a plan to make one or just some advise i would be very greatfull for your help thanks very jason
Paul in North Lincs.
You seem to have a new permission every time you post!!!!!! Personally I wouldn't have thought that using a high chair in or around a wood in the dead of night was the either the safest or most practical way of taking foxes. What are wanting to shoot them with, shotgun or Rimmy?, If you want to use a shotty, then I would have thought that you would do better to offer reynard some free offerings, every night for a week or so, and hide up, and nail him when he comes for his free meal. However, if you are hell bent on making a high chair, then look in the shooting mags where often you will see them in the add pages, you may be able to take note of their design from there. hill billy
No mate i don't intend on using it at night i was more planning as you said to bait the area for a week or so then go up there early in the morning. I was planning to use a .22 Hornet to shoot them with, The only problem i have found is that some times when your sitting in a hedge or hiding some were then the fox can come up behind you and get lost before you even realise he is there thanks very much jason
red_stag88
Yes. The easyest way is to find an old scaffold tower. Quick to set up on your own, and move too. If you want a cheap option, use wood. A lean too is just simply two legs, (made out of something like old telephone poles) with a flat but attached at rightangle, with deacent bracers against the legs too. Then just hammer on the posts and rails to make a shooting rail around the top. Always lash it well to the tree, and anchor it too with good rope. We use steel wire. It's fairly simple actually. It is really just a chair on legs. Dont make it to fancy though, they're no fun to carry 3/4 of a mile on your own.
hill billy
My enitial thought was to use wood because my grandad is a master carpenter so he shout be able to help me with that side of it, weight is not really a problem because there is a track leading up to about 50 yards from the tree i intend to use that way we can put it on a quad or a land rover, i was told to always chain it to a tree because people will have them away in the blink of an eye. Elma Fud
I make my own metal highseats and have all the measurements on my computer at home. I'll send them on to you when I finsh work. The plans are for a lean to highseat. You can use the same plans to make wooden highseats just make sure that the dimensions that I give you are the interneral sizes. rjimmer
If you are going to pre-bait your killing area then you will be too late going there in the morning. Better to sit up there in late evening, but foxes aren't like deer, who rarely look up!

reddeer 40
look at the German hunting site "Wild und Hund", on the forum there are a lot of examples how to build high seats
hill billy
I think i may have found a way of doing it, i have been given an old plastic school chair which is perfect for the seat i am not going to attach a ladder permanently to it this is so i can put it lower or higher what ever the case may be. i have made a very simple design were you basically just make a flat plate with some sort of slots to put some ratchet straps through then i am basically just going to have another plate coming off the bottom to fix the seat too then put supporting struts in placed to make it solid, the next thing i am planning to do is make two long runners about 4-5 feet that run along the back of the seat paralel with the tree this should put less strain on the seat when your leaning foward in it. now i just have to get the materials and build it.
