Marcus
Thanks Guys. I will enjoy it im sure, get the first one out of the way etc. I believe its 50 birds, sporting. What score would be the norm for a complete novice ?
terry b
forget about the scores just be "safe" and enjoy it
Marcus
Thanks. Quick question about chokes. I understand you set the bottom barrel to fire first. At the moment (as it was when I got the gun) the bottom barrel has 1/2 choke, and the top barrel has 1/4 choke. Will that be ok? I have read many threadds on chokes, I dont intend to get hung up on them, just want to make sure the current set up will be ok for me as a beginner etc
Ian E
chokes sound fine, just take your time, look at where the clay is comming from, and where you may break them, and don't forget to give them some lead.. if you hit 20 out of the 50 your doing ok for the first time

BSA-airgunner
relax try to forget any one around you its not that important to smash every clay when you miss say to your self "o well" take deep breath and onto the next. i find if i think to much or think about what othere people are thinking about my shooting it goes very wrong RELAX
Marcus
change them round - 1/2 in the top and 1/4 in the bottom and switch barrel selector to fire bottom barrel first Thanks - its set to fire bottom barrel first at the moment so are you saying I should have a tighter choke in the 2nd top barrel ? Fuji Shooter
We had a noob with us today - borrowed 5 different guns over the 5 stands and he loved it. Even had a go with my pump action when we had finished, EX police motorcycle cop - nice guy. Hope you had fun too and don't worry about the scores it aint as important as enjoying yourself!! Marcus
Thanks - one thing I have noticed, its a different ball game to the corporate clays i've shot Im itching to get back out there, just have to make sure I have enough brownie points in the bank, especially as I found out there is another local shoot on Weds evenings
MC
Well done on your first shoot, re. the choke thing, put 1/4 in the top and if you have one put skeet or cylinder in the bottom or if you are flush then by an extra 1/4 choke stick that in and forget about chokes. It will be rare if you find a bird on a sporting layout that cannot be killed with a 1/4 choke. Find a decent cartridge that you like shooting and that you can get regularly and then forget all about cartridges. Eley Firsts are probably a good choice. Don't worry about your scores just get out there shoot and enjoy it. You will improve steadily as you go along. Remember if you miss try something different, more lead, less lead, above or below. firing at the same point will only mean more misses. Marcus
Thanks for the tips MC. I have a set of 5 chokes, so I will take your advice and put skeet in the bottom and the 1/4 in the top and practice with it. Cheers
MC
With skeet and 1/4 in the barrels and a decent 7.5 or 8 cartridge if you miss it is your fault. It eliminates a few things to think/worry about
bob13
Hi Marcus Another local boy I see, as others have said do it for the fun not the glory, I do. Where do you shoot? we may bump into each other at some point. The main thing is to enjoy and go home safe, don't get hung up on choke size just work on pointing it in the right direction (easier said then done in my case!). Cheers Bob..... Hi Bob Yes I am from sunny Bridgend as well. Only been to Aberbaiden so far, nice bunch and welcome from them. I here there is one up at Kenfig and one near Treos, plan to visit them as well in time. But for now I will limit my embarrasment to Aberbaiden until i get better! Where do you shoot ?
bob13
Hi Marcus Never shot Aberbaiden, I shot at Aberkenfig. Well it is between Aberkenfig and Cefn and St Brides. Never shot Treoes either as they put on some hard targets and never had the time to really. We shot at Aberkenfig every other Sunday, we are there this Sunday if you fancy it.
