Topgunners
I have just received this month's shooting magazine and it states " that ACPO (Association of Chief Police Officers ) are recommending a new condition for Fire-arms Certificates which will allow shooters in England and Wales with larger calibre rifles to take smaller pest species. The condition can be applied at the discretion of local police. Shooters wanting their FAC amended should contact their local firearms department." Could be very interesting upon the different decisions from various county/regions fire-arms departments. monkeymagic1969
Be careful what you wish for - You may end up with only one rifle as you will have no valid reason to own the others
mikee
I was discussing this with Harnser at lunch time, it may not be a smart idea to apply for the condition if you own a .223 and a .308 at renewal they may question the need for the smaller caliber mikee
njc110381
I don't think the police want to see us lose our smaller guns. Why force someone to use a large calibre for vermin? It's much more dangerous than something like a HMR due to the range potential and carried energy, it just wouldn't make sense.
humperdingle
I applied for a ground game and vermin condition to be applied to my .22-250. When the FEO phoned, he asked if I still wanted my .22lr as a result. I said that I did, because there are instances where you can't effectively control vermin with a centrefire... i.e. at night, or in smaller confines. He agreed that it would still be necessary due to topography of land etc, so was fine.
CZ550Kevlar
Isn`t a .44 rifle abit overkill for a bunny?? even my .223 firing a FMJ makes abit of a mess firing an expanding leaves a smear why would they encourage people to use large calibres on something that wouldn`t even make a bullett flinch. Guest RemmySPS
The basic idea is sound, because it would allow someone who is out deer stalking to shoot a fox or even a rabbit with his deer rifle. This is only supposed to be something for the opportunist shot so that the shooter doesn’t contravene his conditions, and not as a replacement for the other smaller calibre rifles. Harnser
I think the trade off to allowing you to use your stalking calibre for vermin will be that the police will say you dont need a smaller calibre for fox . I am convinced there is a hidden agenda by government to restrict the number of centre fire rifles held by law abiding citizens . I can see it coming that you will be allowed a .22 rimfire and one centre fire calibre . Harnser .

Harnser . thats for sure, no reason to posses= no gun, no compo to the shooter. mission accomplished. then we have this dsc2 lark in scotland ( to start)that also mentions night shooting. no dsc2 = no night shooting inc foxes, more guns gone. pro pest controllers are doing night shooting courses up and down the country right now, for a reason. pretty soon all farmers will be paying for the privilege of having their vermin/deer shot.
