darren m
would there be any problems giving my 9 month old springer pup some raw mince ( morrisons ) in with her dried food. i,m struggling to get her to eat her Eukanuba pup food , just gone completely off it this last 2 week and is loosing weight , the only thing she seems to like is the really cheap working dog stuff from the farm store which my other dog also eats ( this gives her loose stools ) . but i,m thinking this cant be good enough nutrition for a pup , can it  would like to give her the best i can , tried other makes , but currently only the eukanuba suits her stomach , dont know why , whats the next best thing ?? thanks

Lloyd90
Na just defrost n give it raw That's what I do Bloody stinks though  You can get tripe or tripe and mince beef in any good pet shop, mines only a small one and they have a freezer in the corner full of different ones. I might try giving her rabbit ones next week
steve0146
Try landywoods for getting a raw food diet. They even do a puppy food. Just google them. The problem with adding meat to the kibble is it changes the protien levels, which might have effects on your dog. Our dogs love the raw food and a bone once a week. We switched after ours went off the kibble.
darren m
i,d like to keep the protein high while shes still growing , the only stuff she will eat ( the cheap working dog stuff as mentioned ) is 20% protein and 10 or 12% fat , but god knows what **** might be init  Also shes a very light weight bitch and could do with a bit of weight on her i,ve stuck with eukanuba for most of her nine months , because its supposed to be the best , but does it really matter that much steve - will google landywoods , cheers Edited July 22, 2009 by darren m
darren m
update -- she loves the mince and have gone over to the skinners working dog hypoallergenic range 22% protein . seems ok for now cheers
Piebob
See if you can pick up a few free samples somewhere. There are often some at my vets if the timing is right. They seem to get snapped up pretty quick though. I normally feed James Wellbeloved. I think the JW puppy products have about 30% protein. DaveK
Just gut and skin a rabbit and throw it to the pup. It'll go down a treat. Some people don't even skin them.
Dave C
Raw chicken is good for putting weight on them but can be pricey, balance it with waste mince from butchers and rabbits you catch (i always freeze rabbits first), go to the butchers end of day and see what is going cheap, can sometimes get Ox heart, liver etc for next to nothing. I also mix in a bit of natural yoguart when introducing new types of raw meat, keeps the gut balanced. Raw is the best thing to feed if you can put up with the hassel, i mix in a bit of raw veg with crushed egg shells with the meet twice a week, just to balance the vitimins. Put a search in google for BARF will find loads more info. Hope all goes well Darren. Dave.
darren m
so far so good since shes come off the eukanuba, her stools seem fine and shes not so hyper at the mo , touch wood trouble is i think i,ve turned her into a fussy eater , she wont eat the kibble unless its got the raw mince in it as well never mind Edited July 29, 2009 by darren m
WGD
darren - if you're strugging to get weight on her just feed an extra meal a day of kibble; that way she will avoid the squits from having too much at one time but take the benefit from more food. Otherwise, as you say, you may end up with a fussy eater. She is still young though and the rule of thumb for spaniels growth is one year up and one year out so she'll most likely bulk up in her own time.
