Riothedog
I've got some Eley Wasp and somebodyorothers Magnums - green tin gathering dust. The wasps are OK but they arc like mad. Even when zero'd out to 60m. I'll try the heavier magnums and let you know RTD
hawkeye
the green tin gathering dust will most likely be Bisley magnums. PS Question why do you want a sixty meter zero. i believe that most people with fac rated airrifles zero to 45yds i might be wrong though just what ive heard and been advised by gunshops. cheers Mike Edited June 8, 2005 by hawkeye
Riothedog
Why do I zero out so far? On a sunny day, I can see the pellet arcing up and then back down through the line os sight. The theory is that if you have your second crossing point further out then the curve will be flatter. It should be dropping by the time it goes through your second point. Ballistic nonsense, I suppose. Unless someone knows better/different RTD
Dexon
Hi Im no expert been shooting a few months now, been looking at ballistics alot. ive been looking at which range to zero in at. These are my conclusions: 1. How close can i get to my quarry 2. What range offers the flattest trajectory for the power of my rifle I shoot pigeons i can get within 20 to 25 yards of them with my decoys My rifle offers a flat trajectory between 22 to 30 yards So i zero in to 25 yards According to your power your trajectory starts to drop at 40 yards i would zero in at 35 yards Ive based these on you using bisley magnums If i have calculated right you should have an effective range of 20 to 40 yards 20 yards aim 0.4 inches low 30 yards aim 0.36 inches low 35 yards aim 0 inches 40 yards aim 0.62 inches high 50 yards aim 2.72 inches high This is based on the maths and will vary from the real world According to the maths if you was to aim at 12 inches from the ground your pellet will have hit the ground at 75 yards i am happy to be corrected if i am wrong, please do so. roblade
Hey Rio, I think the main reason that others zero around the 45 yard mark is due to the accuracy of their shooting and most shots are taken at this sort of range regardless of rifles power (and mostly a lot closer). you can only really zero out to 60 yards bench rested or using a bipod and unless this is the exact same shooting position you use in the field its unlikely your zero will hold true for all positions you shoot. at the club i zero my rifle (12f/lbs pro sport) at around 35 yards but can consistantly hit a shot gun shells all the way out to 75 yards you should find a program about called chairgun probably one of the most usefull out there as long as you can use a computer pretty good. a 28F/lb rifle should be giving a pretty flat trajectory so you may find it easier to zero at a closer range and as for elly wasps if they work in your rifle dont change them another decent company to use if your not too sure about what pellets to use or which are best in your rifle try searching for pelpax they do sample packs of about 35 different makes of pellets and 10 of each. Riothedog
Hi Rob and Dexon Your Point-blank range of 35 yards and mine of 60 are actually about the same. You are zero'd on the way up, me on the way down. As I have a range finder and a 100 yard strip of garden, me thinks I'll make some targets up - "C'mon kids, eat those cornies!" - and move myself up and down the garden on the same strip. As you say, calculated is not the same as the real world. Thanks RTD
