chrispti
Hello all, In the not to distant future I will be looking to get a working cocker pup. Im not sure if I want a dog or a bitch? magnetandsteel
I got a dog, first one I've trained so cant really comment on a bitch but I had no worries with him, think a lot is down to the individual. Great dog bags of energy and fantastic around the kids. Hope this helps. Dai. WGD
If you're only having one and it is kennelled I would go for a dog then it's not out of commission twice a year when it's in season, like a bitch.
shotgun666
both dogs are spot on,but personally id go for bitch everytime more loyal,,,,but you have to think bitches have seasons, dogs are more dominant both work 100% if you have kids bitches are more loving,,,,,,dont get me wrong so are dogs realy its all down to you but they do say when you go for a puppy it should pick you... goodluck mate

ROBLATCH
Thanks all, The dog will be living indoors with kids around, I was thinking of spaying the bitch, would that ruin the dog at all not realy the only downside to spaying is that your dog can become very overweight. turbo33
Over the years I have had two cocker bitches and two springer dogs. I personally found the dogs easier. The dogs seemed much more "Up for it" and therefore hanging on your every move, eye contact etc. I am sure there are many guys here with bitches that are the same. Obviously as said earlier its very much down to the character of the animal, heritage etc but they do say that you tell a dog and ask a bitch!!! Based on my experiences I have gone with a dog again, http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/ind...showtopic=95045 But as said above, both cracking dogs. Good luck. plinker
my experience with my own cockers is the dog i have was way ahead of the bitches in the fact he was easier to train once he learnt something he remembered it forever no messing, i found the bitches, one of which he sired, harder hunting but more ragged in there obedience and i have to say i have seen more spaniel bitches than dogs that are overkeen on shoots. personally i prefer dogs for working but would also agree that bitches should not be overlooked ,just have to work a bit harder on there training imo as for cockers in general they make cracking pets they really are loyal and loving, dog or bitch.,you wont regret getting one
the hitman
I have a cocker dog , he is a great family dog , he never shows aggression to anyone. He is a very head strong , abit of a pack leader if you like, which made him harder to train. He is 2 1/2 now is a real asset on shoot day . I think a bitch would be easier to train , but its dog for me
