mr lee
Just been spending some time with my best mate Jake......he now has a massive lump on his rib cage. I'm talking huge. I can't fit my hand over it all. Doesn't seem massively bothered by it but it's grown since I went away on tuesday.. Due to where it is I doubt they will remove it this time. He has had odd lumps before but none this big. He's as fit and active as hell but I reckon this could be his last call. Got to say, right now i'm truly gutted. He's been by myside for the last 13 years. When I come home he comes to say Hi and rushes up to the loo waiting for me. (he knows I'm male and need a slash after a days work..) He's been shooting and 4x4 ing with me, If I'm doing something in the garage he is always there laid at the side of me. Sleeps on the floor at my side of the bed. If I nip upstairs to check on the kids he follows me up. He has been the most loyal and trusted mate I have ever had. Protected the wife and kids when needed against far bigger and stronger dogs without a thought for himself, I love him to bits. But I fear next week I may have to take him to the vets. Think it is inevitable this time..... Jake. (As mad as a box of frogs) Love ya buddy! Posted this here as he has been a working and shooting mate. mr lee
Update: Jake responded well to the initial treatments and anti biotics. The vets drained the lump as much as possible and less than 6 hours later he was full of life and running round the house with the kids again. Yesterday he went downhill. Wouldn't eat his food and struggled to stand up. I stayed up with him all last night to keep him company and keep an eye on him. This morning we took him to the vets for the last time. The vets were really good and administered him his last injection. Just before he fell asleep he licked my face one last time. It was like he knew his time was up. My daughters are absolutely distraught as they have grown up with him since they were born. I'm upset naturally as he did everything with me. Came fishing when possible, worked on the farm and loved being in the 4x4 with me whilst out shooting. he had a real zest for life and fun. He is now buried in a place he loved to be and play in. Rest in peace buddy, you will be sorely missed and never forgotten. Love ya. Jake aged 14.
