Sergeant
Me and my mates have noticed a few pairs of these birds around our area. Apparently they only usually get up as far as france, and are not seen in this country. Has anyone elser seen them?

Before I grab my Bins and head West can you confirm the bird is a Rock Thrush, Monticola Saxafilis or are you refering to a Ring Ouzel or mistaking the bird for perhaps a Winchat or Stonechat. As far as I know There have only been about 12 or so sightings of the Rock Thrush on these shores in the last 10 years. Very rare. The male is an unmistakable bird. Sergeant
We are pretty sure, and yes, it is quite unmistakeable. We havnt seen anything like it before, and all the books seem to point to it, and its definitely not a ring ouzel. BTW, do you mean Monticola Saxatilis? jim_whitson
Hmmm. How do you tell the difference between a female rock thrush and other female thrushes?
Cranfield
jim, you don't, but if you are an enthusiastic twitcher, it automatically becomes a female rock thrush.
ollie
The male has very similar markings to a kingfisher (or is it just me )
