chop the apples (dont bother washing them)

best thing is a purpose made 'thingy' that you fix into your drill

place the pulp in a old pillow case

press

put juice into demijon or similar

add sugar, qty depends on how strong you would like the cider

leave to ferment somewhere cool, not too coll though

when clear decant into bottles and make sure no air gets to the cider

drink it with your mates eating raw onion and chunks of cheese !!!

ps - i have got a press if you want to borrow it ?

It's really easy, although a little messy! Just collect up all the windfalls as they drop and bag them up. Keep an eye on them as you don't want them to go mouldy or start to rot. When you have a decent amount you need to mash them. Easiest way I think is to put them in one of those large indestructable rubble buckets you can buy at the builers merchants and thump them with a big chunk of wood (untreated fence post is ideal). Next is the pressing. Machine mart do a good press for reasonable money and if you're doing it a lot it's a good investment. If you make your own press don't let anything metallic contact the pulp or juice as it can taint the cider, and be warned that pressing apples requires a really sturdy press (my old boss was mad keen on making cider and broke so many DIY presses he gave up and bought one!). Once you've got the juice sorted just bung it in a 5 gallon brewing bin and airlock it. No yeast, no sugar for now. It should start to brew on its own. Try a bit as it goes along, and add sugar if/when it gets too dry. When you get a good sediment at the bottom you have to syphon the cider off into another brew bin, and it should then be ready to drink.
