Chard
Can anybody tell me the difference between the following, please? Eley Superb No 1 (size 8 shot) Eley Superb No 4 (size 8 shot) Both plastic wad clay cartridges I had the "No 4" and I bought some more today, which were labelled "No 1"
Dibs
Chard, Where abouts is the label and i will have a look at mine?. I am using these at the moment (great cartridge) and just had a look on a box of 25 and no numbers on mine. Eley list a 28 gram no 8 and a 32g no8. They dont seem to do any variants in the same weight cartridge apart from shot sizes. Could it be a batch number? It's on the white label that's stuck on the box (250 size box) that has all the ballistics info and size/weight info. I don't think it's a batch number, it's in the same big lettering as "Superb", as if it's part of the brand name. Very odd, never noticed it before. They are a good cartridge aren't they? I find I'm very confident with them, even at extreme range
Dibs
Sorry mate, Cant help as have taken mine out of the large boxes and thrown them away. I was using Hull sovereign FITASC's before and only got some of these as the Hull's were out of stock in my local shop but totally sold on them now and wont be changing back. I would imagine they are all the same though as Eley dont list different models of this cartridge on their website.
Mr Potter
Chard, Both boxes I've got are labeled No. 4. Haven't got a clue as to why or what it means but if you don't e-mail or ring Eley to find out, well I suppose I'll have to and you know I'll only ever get round to doing that tomorrow (or maybe even the day after that!!) Let us know when you've found out Mr Potter
Mr Potter
PS I forgot to say I think these carts, in 8's, are the dogs danglers as well. Their £12 per thousand cheaper brother Eley Blues are just as good (my son regularly beats me shooting Blues or Olympics) but that stupid idiot of a brain that rattles round in my head keeps telling me that as the Superbs are more expensive they must be better and even then they can't be as good as the VIPs 'cos they are dearer again My brain hurts now, I'm going for a lie down. Floating Chamber
Eley Superbs? Dave B did 200 straight and 25 (shoot-off) to win the Eley World Skeet at Doveridge this month!

I would imagine they are all the same though as Eley dont list different models of this cartridge on their website. I was also using Hull Sovereign Fitasc Turbo Bitchmutha Go-Faster 8's for extreme range stuff and one day I found myself in a stand about to shoot at a distant crosser and realised I hadn't put my usual handful of Fitasc cartridges in my other pocket. I only had the Eley Superbs and as it wasn't that extreme, and I was feeling lazy I just used them. Good clean kills, didn't notice any difference I've still got a few of the Hull cartridges left, but I'm not sure I'll buy any more, especially as nobody within a 25,000 mile radius of Manchester seems to stock them (well, Bond & Bywater do, but Preston is one of those places I try and avoid, like Baghdad and Kabul) Edited August 26, 2009 by Chard
paulos
Eley Superbs are.....superb.....but VIP's are the dog's danglies I mean, with all that shiny brass - how can they fail? :look: I was in a similar situation to you when I shot down at Shugborough a couple of months ago Chard, I only had no 8's with me and no 7.5's or 7's which I would normally have. So just got my head down as used what I had, and had great kills with them, even on the rangiest stuff down there.
hofk
The numbers 1 and 4 are just the different machines they are loaded on.

Mr Potter
Cheers hofk That's cleared that up. Nothing there I can use as an excuse then Not too sure Chard, I've just checked and one of the cartons I have is actually a number 5 - now everyone knows that No. 5 is a much better number than a poxy 1 or even a quite respectable No 4 but hey it's why they call it a High 5. Mr (I'll get me coat) Potter PS Good luck at the Clubmans Chard, if you don't go home with the silverware I'll be very surprised. You can hit them, all of them just don't let your brain tell you otherwise!

Mr Potter
THere is at least 6 machines that load the new type 250 boxes. Hi hofk, You sound as though you might work at Eley or at least know someone who does? If that is the case can you get a message to the management that as good as the cartridges are I've yet to find anyone who doesn't absobloodylutly hate the 250 cardboard boxes. They are a nightmare to get into, there is no way it can be done without using bad language and a sharp knife, I cannot see how a female lady of the opposite sex kind could open a carton without breaking a fingernail, I've nearly broken one and I chew mine Nearly all the other manufacturers have a box that has two flaps (Oh Er Missus :yp: ) which is easy to open, take a few 25 boxes out and close up again, once you've destroyed an Eley carton getting into it you are left looking for somewhere to put the boxes that have fallen out all over the place as you wrestled the cardboard into submission. If Eley don't do the right thing soon and return to the original style cartons, well I shall write to my MP, start an on-line petition to No. 10 or even do a Homer Simpson and chain myself outside Eley HQ and go on hunger strike. (I'm exaggerating a little bit, the hunger strikes not going to happen ) Mr (I'm glad I got that off my chest) Potter.

I have to use a knife to slash the top of the box open. I then start tearing lumps of card off the thing and end up with a shredded pile of bits and 10 slashed boxes of 25 cartridges. I'm also physically exhausted and need to have an hour on the sofa to get my breath back. I'm sure this is the main reason why I shoot so badly  It can't be anything else. I think one of those boxes would survive a direct hit from a cruise missile

hofk
THe reason for the new boxes is that one machine can load the 25's and then load the 250 all in one go. Apart from the glueing of the flaps either to much can't open them, or not enough and they open themselves.
clayslayer
As a previous answer the numbers 1 to 6 have been added to the box of 250 to identify which machine has made them.No 1,4, and 5 load plastic cartridges numbers 2,3,6 load fibre cartridges all six machines load boxs of25 which now go into an auto packing unit hence the new style box. All other machines are hand packed and still use the old two flap box.So if yours have 1 to 6 on them they will always be in the new box sorry but thats the cost of automation. Good news is due to these numbers seeming to cause a little confusion eley are changing these codes to a b c d e and f in the near future.Dont say thay dont listen to their customers. The box remains the same as this is the only one the packer will use. Edited September 10, 2009 by clayslayer
Robin128
Sounds like lawful authority and good reason to carry a huge knife to get into said boxes...just been shooting sooooo much better than my mate and also been advised to buy Eley Superb. That will be after I've shot the 1,000 RIOs I bought this week.
