  1. Do I have an interest to declare , yes does that invalidate my shooting most new cartridges that come onto the market place by most manufacturers and seeing what works for me .as a shooter of 40 years at clay and pigieon like most shooters price has a big part to play. At competition level it remains to see how well amber hill gets on with them .the true test is try some and see how you get on.most of the top range high price cartridges seem very good but some of the lower priced ones can be harsh and dirty . do I believe we need to get youngsters shooting.yes. do I use other forums yes the views expressed are my own and I am sure some people will love them some will not .I am interested what other people will think when they give an informed view
  2. Just shot the new amber cartridges today have to say very impressed with them very good feel to them and my view is if we dont get some youngsters into this sport soon we will have no sport. the future is with new people entering and I say well done to eley and amber hill for trying .
  3. Shot some of the new eley amber cartridges today bit girly in a pink case 24gm but wow they really are a good cartridge low recoil and very fast gave real good breaks at range will def be shooting some more and will be trying the new rebel range when I can get some. If they are shot by amber hill then who am I to argue with them.
  4. Dont buy a small bottle my 9 lt gets charged to often but is probably just the right size
  5. Cannot beat eley 21 gm, real fast but best advice is try them out you may be surprised ,
  6. Anyone heard any rumours that its moving abroad this year seems a shame if its true
  7. I have 3 air rifles and on pistol and find accupel good in all of them all my mates use them as well
  8. Now way has that been loaded by eley thay make all there own shot and fishing shot as seen in the picture is not made by them and the only way it could get into a cartridge is by home loading the washer would not go though a loading dye
  9. BB shot in 410 does not have the same speed as a 12 gauge they are set a lot slower(about 900 ft per second as apposed to 1090 in a 12 GAUGE CARTRIDGE)
  10. any one had problems mounting a scope far enough back to get a clear picture, also heard of pellet mag problems with the old huntsman, have these been ironed out.
  11. been there on holiday for a week two years ago, nice place, fishing very good. chave scale no 4 and you do get RAF flyovers every morning and home at night .we got to see wellington bomber flying over the site.
  12. Had my 51 plate p38 for 7 years now still only got 70,000 on the clock 4.6 petrol.running costs not that bad, only had one big bill for the air con repair £1,000 and two sets of brakes and discs. Love it to bits never broke down but petrol costs are high,18 to the gallon.
  13. Got to meet peter wilson and his dad today(thursday 23rd) what a great guy.Got to try on his gold medal ,nearest i will ever get to one.I asked him what the secret of shooting at this level was and he says its all down to practice, he shoots about 60,000 cartridges a year.So if you want to shoot at this level, get out there.
  14. anything by eley always found something in there range which suits me and my gun. plus its such an extensive range bigger tham most if not all other companys.
  15. Comes down to newtons law i believe : for every action their is an equal and opersit reaction:= if you fire a heavy load at fast speed it kicks =if you fire a light load slow it does not.
  16. Olympics are a true 70mm case with better components, being marked competition dont mean a thing speed and ballistics are very close in most cartridges used for clay shooting also only available in plastic wad., Olympics are a little faster but not a lot.First are plastic or fibre, 28 24 and 21gm ,21 gm are loaded to be about 1140 fps at 66 ft. Olympics are made in 24 gm for the europian market or as special order.
  17. Eley vip or superb best cartridges on the market not cheap but you get what you pay for Funny most shooters will pay £3000 to £7000 for a gun then shoot a budget cartridge.
  18. Dont go by whats on the box olympics are 10 fps faster on average than first (at 66 feet) i test fire many hundreds of thousands on a test range and find most box info not to be very accurate speed at muzzle does not mean a lot as the shot leaves the barrel as a lump of lead and tends to slow down range faster or slower as per the shot size as it begins to spead out which is why the down range speed gives a better indication as to a carts proformance. Most clay carts are about 1100 to 1140 fps at 66 feet and most never give a 100 fps increase
  19. Damp is the big problem military return after 10 years but cartridges will go a lot longer if stored correctly if they go off like damp sqiubs move them into a warm dry atmosphere for a couple of months if they still sound wrong get rid of them.
  20. You will find a good range of load, shot size and wad, fibre or plastic,in the Eley range weather for clay or game loades
  21. sounds like low pressure which can lead to slow speeds most carts will blow out the turn over flat against the chamber and the heat makes it stay there. As to getting them changed most shops will if you feel that you have a problem with them.If you feel that thay shoot ok then stick with them May also be the tops were not rolied square or case thickness which would not have any effect on the ballistics at all.
  22. Eley first are loaded to 1100 FPS at 66 feet (not muzzle) Eley olympic are loaded at 1110FPS at 66 feet (not muzzle) Eley Blues are loaded the same as Olympic In fact most eley clay cartridges are loaded at the 1100 to 1120 range VIP trap and FITASC loaded at 1140 FPS. Dont always believe what it says on the box. PRICE INDICATES BETTER COMPONENTS NOT A FASTER CARTRIDGE;' As all shot leaves the barrel as a lump of lead 9s will slow down range faster than 6 so eley set speed at 66ft so which ever name you buy will give good results Eley first are a budget cartridge but give results as good as the others in the eley range.Speed wise other more expensive cartridges may feel softer but speed wise you are not losing out. It comes down to try as many cartridges as you can and see what you and your gun are happy with.
  23. Had two women stop me and a mate shooting clays ,told them thay were clay pigeons her reply was that she did not care what kind of pigeon we were killing it was still wrong and her mate wanted to now if we ate our kills. no winning some times
  24. firing many tens of thousands of cartridges on a test range and though a gun as well i can only say you get what you pay for but cartridge to gun match and how it feels to you does come in to it.Friend of mine used to say if it did not hurt when fired it was no good and would not hear it any other way.
  25. As stated before most eley game cartridges are loaded to be reaching a 60ft target at about 1090 ft per second be it 4 shot or 7 shot which is as fast if not faster than many other brands, So they should drop birds as good as any other brand used there will always be people who feel more confident with a certain gun / cartridge combination. The fact remains all modern cartridges will give good clean kills if placed in the right spot. I test fire many thousands of cartridges a year so can only think as stated earlier that you may have had a bad batch but with modern production and large scale testing this should not be a problem.
