Rizzini
If I wanted to apply for a FAC shotgun when i apply for a FAC license, what should i write down on the application sheet? And also, where should i write down that i would like MODERATED rifles. Thanks, Rizzini
LostWomble
You could put either 'multi-shot shotgun' or 'section 1 shotgun'. Don't forget the gauge. Add the moderator on a separate slot on the application. It is probably best to check with the FEO for your area. They are employed with our taxes for just that very reason. steve_b_wales
Reason for wanting/using a FAC shotgun, - Crop Protection. That's what my FEO advised me to write down, and I got the variation with no problems. The Escort magnum is a brilliant FAC shotgun. Mine is an 8 shot. See it in action on YouTube (Escort magnum 8 shot)
mr salt
Just to add here all the above are spot on. But it is illegal to decoy pigeons with a semi auto shotgun with more than two cartridges in the magazine and one in the chamber.(2+1) I know many people that do it and best of luck to them. This is stated in the law that says you cant use a recorded sound to aid decoying. Crazy but true. So just be careful what you do put down. I was told by the police that doing a lot of pigeon shooting was good enough reason. I would not say anything about decoying ,just in case you get a jobs worth! cheers scott goodluck Edited August 31, 2009 by mr salt
mark1187
Scott, I suggest you look at the Natural England site and the terms of the General Licence, we have to comply with to shoot Woodies etc. See WML Gen-L05, Licence to kill or take certain birds to prevent serious damage or disease at http://www.naturalengland.org.uk/Images/WM...5_tcm6-7669.pdf As long as you are not using a Section 5 prohibited weapon, you CAN use a Sect. 1 shottiee. See 2 (ii) and 13(iii). Quote from NE site “ General licences are issued to allow certain actions to be carried out that would otherwise be illegal under the legislation, without the need for people to apply for a specific licence.”. Hope this helps, Mark

Breastman
If you've got the budget get a Beretta Extrema 2 or Benelli M2, you'll not regret it and if you want to try PSG you'll have the right tool for the job :( Mark
mr salt
Re read this guys, and you will see where iam coming from. The whole thing is a tin of worms :( http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/ind...&hl=callers I think its totally misleading. Dont get me wrong ,i would use a 5 shot semi when decoying ,but i would be careful how i worded what i wrote down on the form. As i said the firearms guy that come to see me said "doing a lot of pigeon shooting"was good enough. (crop Protection or fun was not mentioned) He was dont bothered about what type!(decoying /rough/roost/or why/fun/ crop protection/ job) If you wrote i want one because its my hobby and they look good, and would be fun to shoot. i some how dont think your get it. according to what i was told " I do alot of pigeon shooting" would be fine. I have read it all ,and what i dont understand according to what you posted. I am i breaking the law when i go pigeon shooting with a 3 shot semi if i have not tried all other methods? (no gas guns ,flares or spinning noisey things) i.e when i just turn up in a field and shoot a semi at pigeons.(i do this all the time) iam not being funny ,i thought it was crazy and misleading .now i have re-read it iam more confused! cheers scott Edited September 2, 2009 by mr salt
stevew
I was lucky with my section 1 slot, I'd helped sort the shotguns and rifle for a relative who'd had a brain injury and sadly subsequently died. He had a left hand Remi 1100 5- shot which his widow said I could have if I had a use for it, I had it on a temporary permit then transfered it to my firearms at renewal. I sent a letter explaining the situation to my FLO and also asked for an open ticket, I chased them up two weeks later and they said I could pick it up that day with all requests granted. My section 1 slot has no restrictions on it ie, I can shoot any pest/ vermin and clays. Humberside Police Firearms team get top marks from me ( got the temporary permit for section 1 and .22 rifle next day). I changed the Remi because it was left handed, I'm right handed and it's no good having 5 shots if you can't see after 1 shot because of the **** ejected into your face, now have an Extrema 2 FAC ,can't fault it. When I got the Extrema my RFD put it as multi-shot on my certificate, if you put 5 shot/ 8 shot or whatever and want to change the mag tube for a bigger one you may have to get a variation first, saying multi-shot leaves you covered. If you have good reason, like pest control, you should have no problem.
