To answer your curiosity I have a 'B" gun but have never owned a Hatsan Escort or any other gun made in Turkey,

Canadians are prolific on the south coast here, many fishing clubs and farmers are asking for people to rimfire them, I was asked to do such on the Isle of Whight just two weeks ago and declined. I know of two people that rimfire by request locally, not my cup of tea I would rather shoot them as Wildfowl but would not limit my bag to 2 or 3 my limit would be dictated by how many I was prepared to carry and could find homes for eating

I know Starlight32 personally and find I agree with most of what he has stated. I too hold the belief that, as a wildfowler, the Canada Goose should be taken off the General licence and that self imposed limits of all Wildfowl species should be the way forward.

For me I find it hard to justify the conditions to be met under the terms of the GL. How many of those "vermin" controlling Canadas actually adhere to them or for that matter even know without a doubt that they're acting within the Law?!?!?!

I understand that Permissions are hard to come by and when one has such a permission and the farmer is adamant he wants them shot, a moral quandary begins. Do you shoot and run the risk of losing SGC/FAC for not adhereing to the terms of the GL (assuming that somebody sees you not) or do you not shoot and run the risk of losing the permission? I know which route I would take, but I'm also fortunate that I get on well with my farmers and I also that don't have a canada "problem".

Me personally, I stick to a self imposed bag limit of 6 birds, be it Duck or Goose or mixture of them both. Reasons for that, its a lot of birds to carry off the marsh. My family and I whilst we eat game and wildfowl alot, there is only so much we can store/eat. And I feel 6 is a good number to help maintain a good population through the winter.

It should never be about numbers, but ultimately one mans limit is another mans beginning or even excess.

Starlight32 does have considerable knowledge on the subject of wildfowling, sitting I think on two if not three club commitees, has probably forgotten more than most will know, but still I can see the point of view of others on here. Its a question of individual Morals.

To the poster who posted about "we don't hear griping about shooting 100+ pigeons", the reason is that the Woodie is residential 365 days a year and whose numbers (Not including Rock doves, collared doves migratory Turtle doves, Stock doves, Racers), I believe are somewhere around 20 Million+ with at least two (in some cases three) broods a year and causes far more significant damage to agricultural crops than Canadas ever do. The population can sustain shooting of bags 100+, look on this site how many people on here actually shoot a 100+ bag, check the figures shot by PWers for the last 2 years, we're not even making a dent in the population.

Main reason for Canada's being put on the GL, wasn't for crop protection, but due to Health & Safety issues regarding their Guano around lakes, ponds, rivers as well as the damage caused to Fisheries, by the sheer volume of guano polluting the water, encouraging unatural weed growth and therefore reducing oxygen content. (anybody who has kept fish will know about micro-bacteria and the balance needed to breakdown the waste products produced by fish, rotting vegatation, Bird Guano etc.)
