philw1985
Hi everyone im new to the forum! iv finally got around to buying a gun after getting my license about a year ago. Just wanted some advice on what best to go for. Im pretty much decided on a beretta 30" with multichokes and was looking to spend between £1000 - £1500. Iv seen a s/h silver pigeon 5 for just a little bit more than that but i dont know if id be better with a 686 or 682? Also is there a big differance between a sport or game gun if they both have multichokes as i will only be shooting clays?
Claybuster
Go for it & buy the sporter as game guns are generally lighter in weight which may give you a little more felt recoil. If you go to a gun shop that is based at a shooting ground they will normally let you try one before you buy.
timps
The 682 gold E has an adjustable trigger & optima-bore – optimachoke barrel system, this is a more open diameter supposedly giving better patterns and less recoil for competition use. The 686 & silver pigeon have the same ‘traditional’ (tighter bore) barrel and Mobilchoke system. The main difference between the 686 & silver pigeon is the stock dimensions, weight and an automatic safety on the game gun (this can be a pain but you do get used to it). As far as breaking clays all three will do a fine job, as to which one is best is subjective to the shooter. However the dedicated clay guns are designed to shoot large numbers of clays in succession and this is reflected in the design (weight and stock dimensions). I personally would go for the clay gun if that’s all you are shooting, but shooting them is the only way to know for sure.

Axeman1984
I had a 682 gold e, great gun if one fits, you wont go wrong with one of them, and turned out to be a good investment I actually made £100 on it when I traded it in for a caesar guerini....... beretta
has to be the 682gold e all the way. its made for competition clays and is very easy to keep control of. dont go the game gun way as one day you WILL forget the safety catch and lose targets because of it. Gordon R
I have never really been a fan of Berettas, but I have a 682 E Gold 32" Trap. Left my Guerini in the safe last week and tried the Beretta. Very good - well balanced and feels lighter than it is . My only gripe is the trigger. Although it adjusts, it will not adjust rearward as much as the Brownings. Even in the rearmost position, it still sits too far forward for me. I checked with GMK who tell me that is the only trigger they do. That's just personal preference. You won't go far wrong with Beretta, Browning or Miroku. philw1985
Thanks for the advice guy's. I've just been to buy my gun, decided to go for the silver pigeon v I tried the 682 gold e and i couldn't hit a thing with it. It felt a bit heavy and not as comfortable as the silver pigeon. The guy in the shooting school said the 682 gold e is more for advanced shooters which kinda made sense. The silver pigeon 5 felt a lot more comfortable and I hit a lot more clays, I forgot the safety a couple of times when i tried it but the shop is getting the automatic safety taken off before i pick it up free of charge. Looking forward to taking it out this weekend!

philw1985
I got it from north wales shooting school, there's a little shop there and a gunsmith. The gents in the shop were really helpful and gave me a few tips on my gun mount. I paid £1600 for a second hand which seems a lot but it doesn't look like its seen much action and all the reviews i've read on the gun have been really good so im happy with my choice!
