rjimmer
The Berkeley hunt used to be able to hunt on, their own land, from Berkeley Castle near the shores of the Severn to Berkeley Square in London, so I was told. Seems impossible doesn't it. Those were the days, perhaps!
Fisherman Mike
Well worth watching I have followed the Berkeley and VWH for many years and have had the pleasure of working for the Berkeley family. Hunting is in ther blood and has been since the 12th century when their hunting estates stretched from South Gloucestershire to Middlesex. The last private battle fought on English soil was between the Berkeley and Talbot families.... It may even have been about the indadequacies of the BASC. :( The Huntsman have a distinctive livery... I shant tell you any more as it will spoil the show... FM.

badsworth
I liked the programme and will definately watch it again. I'm afraid it is unlikely to shift any opinions though. Any stereotypes you hold will be re-inforced not overturned. I wish they had explained how often the hunt ends with no kill. You get the impression that the fox is always torn to bits. The truth is that the odds are definately in Charlie's favour. B Edited July 5, 2005 by badsworth
Fisherman Mike
The truth is that the odds are definately in Charlie's favour. This is indeed true.. But conversely one might argue that if that is the case whats the point of Fox Hunting in the first place. I once read of one hunt that lost more horses in one season than they caught foxes! Normally a fit and healthy fox is more than a match for a 16 stone rider and a 3/4 tonne horse and if you follow the hunt closely as I have (had) done for many years, you will often see the Fox stop in its tracks and take stock of the situation almost as if it knows its all under control. I am sure that because hunting had been going on for so long in this country the Fox has evolved some hereditory expectation of being hunted by dogs and man on horseback. One thing the Hunt regulates which is often overlooked, is a healthy population of Foxes, as the weak, injured, manged and elderly foxes are generally caught quite quickly. Contrast this healthy population in a few years time and i am sure it will be very different. FM.
dodger
I am sure I heard in the commentary that it is a three part series.
