Hard Day in the HEAT

well we where originally going to a new perm to shoot a few crows , but on arriving there we did not see a single bird for over half an hour so we decided to travel 10 miles down the road to another perm that we had not been near for around 2 months,,

myself and my shooting buddie Les decided to have a reckie round and noticed a few crows where popping to and from the cattle feeders at both ends of the grass field but the skies were totally empty ,

it was now around 10am and the sun was belting down, once I had set my hide up I felt like I was being cooked as the heat was ridiculous , after about 45mins with nothing moving a pigeon finally came into range, now normally I would be using 7 1/2 28gram carts but I had been given a box of 32gram no5,s(Propercartridges) to try out . the first pigeon was around 40yrds and I nailed it so much so there was a massive amount of feathers that came off it,

next on the hit list was a very slow flying magpie which fell to the same fate at 58 paces away from me but landed in a ditch full of water so I could not retrieve it(gutted) for the next two hours I had a few come and go and a few that I nailed but the proper carts were very very effective and I have to say I took some very high pigeons with them and also some distant birds with the furthest being 73 paces from the hide,

I ended up having a cracking 3 1/2 hours in the hide, but decided to call it a day as it was getting very slow and we wanted to go and have a look at another perm we had gained from the farmer, By 2 pm we had finished and I was very pleased with how the day went and certainly how the carts performed, a little punchy through my sxs but certainly very good carts indeed so much so I,ve ordered a 1000 of them,

thanks to George and also Les for a cracking day in the baking hot sun and a brill day looking at new perms which we will try out next week

here is a pic of me with the birds shot today
