Rough ole night

Looking at the clock on 5.45 I knew it was time to head out to the marsh , the forecast was for strong winds coming from the South but throughout the day its been blowing hard from the North East and I knew the Geese would be going home with the wind behind them so the next best bet was to go up the top end of my marshes and see if any duck are going on the flooded areas , time I got there the cattle had settled down for the night on one of the last ones that is still dry . The wind was still strong but not gale force in fact a ideal night to keep the duck down a bit . sitting down with the wind on my back I was sure if any came in they would come from the direction I was looking , but sxds law the first ones I saw came from behind with the wind and all I could do was to wish them luck where ever they were heading to . My dog was half sitting in the water when he stood up looking in front and I could see 5 or 6 duck swinging round to drop in , my first shot dropped one but my second shot went into empty space . Before I could reload George was back with a nice hen Widgeon and by now it was just about dark and turning cold , another five minutes and that will be it, but just then a small lot of duck were coming in on cupped wings , my first shot sent one going down at an angle and as they bunched together the second shot left another one behind , my dog had the sense to get the live one first and I could see he was chasing it across the water until his head went down and he was soon on his way back with a lively Mallard , the second one was going nowhere and it was soon back laying beside his mate. By now it was dark and time to head off home , not a big bag but I was more than happy , my dog had done a couple of good retrieves , I didn't shoot to bad and it was ideal conditions for a flight .........I have had a few better ones but I have had a lot more worse ones .

Good on you John well done. Wind was not blowing as predicted this but even though I say it myself 4 shots and scored 2 cracking R/L at Pinks this morning Well chuffed

They will soon be calling you Boyd ( The Wild Goose Man ).... Kenzie taught you well . Lincolnshire have always had a reputation for having some of the best wild fowlers and its people like you and some of the other guys on here from your area who keep that reputation alive. Brilliant result Boyd.

Thank you for the kind words John. It was also pleasing for me that I took a fowler I had never met out rather than leaving him behind me and near the seawall he managed 2 Pinks also.
