After many years of dedication to an estate i first got shooting permission on and helping out where possible i got the text of a lifetime yesterday, basically telling me the part time keeper will no longer be working for the estate and would i be interested in the position! it was like a dream come true...

Still have lots of learning to do but have a good team of friends who are either ex keepers or still active keepers...,

Will be spending a lot more time in this section of the forum from now on

thanks both, really ready for it, i met a great farmer who died the a couple of years ago and i agreed to work with him as a under keeper working for free, his words were that it was his hobby and he loved doing it... First year he had 8000 pheasant 3000 partridge and 400 ducks.. was a great few years with him but Jesus did it burn some hours putting the graft in all for his little hobby ( bless his sole ) Was a great learning experience and many a great shoot day had there

Excellent, 12,000+ birds released is some hobby!

I had a similar phone call last September, offering me the chance to rent the shooting on the neighbouring farm to the one I already shot over. Not much, 200 acres of mainly open fields, (and the price was a bit steep too). But it put back into one lot the land where I first got introduced to shooting as a 10 year old beater, back together and under my control.
