kip270
Looking out this morning, we had our first frost, so i thought i would have a few hours around the farm before i had to got to work this afternoon. I got to the farm at about 9.15am, spoke with the farmer, and noticed some pigeons around the buildings, i asked if they were ferals, and he said yes, "shoot the *******" no problem will be up in the week with the air-rifle I was undecided what rifle to take, but with the hard frost i thought the .22rim was not the right choice, so i thought i would have a wonder with the .222. On my outing around my permission i spotted a well used path that foxy was using, so i thought they might be out sunning themselves. I got into a turnip field, and heard a Cock pheasent alarm call, about 200 yards further on, so i slowly made my way up to where it was calling, then it flew up over the trees and into the turnip field. Then another Cock bird was making his alarm call about 120 yards away, so i sat down and scanned with the bino's, the second cock bird took up and flew into the turnip field. Then i spotted a bit of red coming through some gorse, i sat down, set up my sticks and shoudered the rifle. The fox came out into a clearing and then sat down in the sun, it was facing me, so i placed the cross-hairs on it's bib and squeezed off my shot. The 50grain V-max dropped it on the spot, 97 yards A nice Dog Fox To say i am chuffed is an understatement He had swollen back heel, think it was broken at some point and heeled up. Frank
EXCELLENT stuff Kip. B) I bet your over the moon with you fox and what a lovely looking .222 that is. Congratulations. Nothing like an early morning fox , at times, rather shoot 1 in the wee hours, then 20 odd at night. Frank.
