  1. Hi All, Stillsy and I have been looking at a field of Barley which is pretty ripe and the pigeon are starting to build up on it. They seem to be concentrating on a blowhole about 10 yds across so quite small and it is the only one on the field. Any advice of whether to use a magnet or not would be appreciated and/or bouncers, flappers, deeks etc. I know they only real way to tell is to experiment and see what happens but just wondered what experiences have taught you. cheers, Jon.
  2. How heavy are they? Don't look like the sort of thing you would want to be carrying across a field.

Diceman, I'm worried. Are you saying yours are green and yellow and have laces up the front? See a doctor chap.
  4. Devilled kidneys on toast. Ideally from a Roe which my mate has just shot! Kippers run it a close second but not the **** boil in the bag jobs. A proper one, grilled.
  5. The other trick I have seen, on a video clip on youtube perhaps? is to heat up a knife blade, something like a butter knife and use that instead of the iron. Obviously you still need to use a damp cloth. I think a knife was used because you can be more precise than an iron. cheers,
  6. How much do you want to hear? I have some of the Green Leopard ones with valves, which are not electronic but about 1/5th of the price of the Cens. Mate of mine has the Cens and he raves about them - if you have the money they are probably the ones to get. cheers,
  7. Hi Dan, Cheers for organising the shoot on Sunday. Some nice targets there and very well run, well done. Good to see you had a decent turnout and the burger from the BBQ was just the job. See you next time.
  8. Hi Martyn, I'm not entirely sure but I think John Pool 'owns' the shop. Given he just won the Vets class at the Pan African, I should imagine he knows one end of a shotgun from the other!
  9. Hi Dan, Hope you don't mind me putting up this post. I am mate of Johnny Moore, hence the publicity. Looking forward to it on Sunday. See you there. cheers,
  10. Morning All, a mate of mine works at Braces shooting and country supplies and they are starting a new clay shoot at; Maes Knoll Farm Norton Malreward Pensford Bristol BS39 4EZ Tel: 01173 009956 This Sunday 17th April is the opening and there is a 50 bird sporting for £25 incl Cartridges and Clays. There is also a BBQ there. It runs from 10:30 to 12:30. cheers,
  11. Don't know about shooting Trap as I never have but it certainly kills pigeons. Lots of pics on that there interwebnet thingy.
  12. 34g of 4s in 65mm work fine - well fine enough for a large canada I had. I've only had mine 6 months so I think it is probably still bedding in but I reckon most 65mm game loads will be fine. Not tried any 21g clay loads for example but I think it is more the length not the load which it struggles with. Apparently 65mm shells enable you to put 3 in the tube - not that I would ever try this as it is contrary to the terms of my SGC! cheers,
  13. Never actually shot an A400 so couldn't tell you, sorry but unless you have got some serious neck/back problems or plan on shooting a lot of very heavy loads I can't see either being a problem. Needless to say the A400 with the built in kick off will absorb more then the Maxus which does not come with one as standard. As a game shooter I shoot a lot of 32g loads through an over and under so recoil on the Maxus is almost unnoticeable. Suggest you find a gunshop which stocks both and see if you can take them both to a local clay shoot and try them out. cheers,
  14. Hull Special Pigeon - 32g 6's in Fibre.
  15. My two pennath; I love Beretta's - I have owned 4 so I am biased towards them, however I bought a Browning Maxus. Why? The Maxus was a lot cheaper - I wanted something for shooting clays and pigeons so price was a big factor The principle that the Maxus is built around is making it reliable - not quick, not light, not green but reliable, which has got to be the most important factor in a semi. It came up really nicely when I tried one - the X400 seemed a lot heavier and sluggish I love the speed load facility, which is brilliant in a hide Browning are a big established name who can provide support if it goes wrong Since buying it I really can't fault it. Easy to clean and as long as you don't put small load 65mm carts through it, it won't jam. A mate of mine bought one recently as he liked mine so much, as a replacement for his Escort, and cannot believe how much less recoil he feels. Trust this helps
  16. Hi. Not come across them either, Express Special game yes but not Hull. What are they weight, shot size, fibre etc? cheers,
  17. Read an article recently about Woodcock with injuries from being shot before, never pigeon though.
  18. I didn't get into shooting til my 30's! A regular at the pub I used to drink in, invited me to go beating on his shoot. Let me have a go with his side by side on beater's day and I promptly bruised my shoulder to pieces. After that I was hooked! Gotta go as I'm off to shoot some clays..... cheers,
  19. If i'm shooting a round of 50 sporting clays I just put a box and a bit loose in each pocket of my vest. If I'm out roost shooting I fill my pockets of my fleece. If I'm pigeon shooting I tear the lid off a box and put it by my feet or load straight from my cartridge bag. cheers,
  20. I think LR are now fitting AT2s as their factory fit offroad tyre to Defenders now. Not sure if this is a recommendation or not, being a VW driver!
  21. My mate had a beautiful tobacco leaf P6B 3500S but I prefer these now; cheers,
  22. How much extra wear are we talking about. I have done 25K miles with my AT2's on my 2.5 tonne Touareg and they are still looking very good. cheers,
  23. I use Mallorys in Bath - nearish to you. They just put a new battery in my mate's Breitling and polished the case and bracelet for £85. 5 years ago he had it 'serviced' elsewhere and they charged him £250! Not sure if they are an Oris dealer but very knowledgeable and friendly independent jeweller who get my vote. BTW they stock an impressive range of watches including Rolex, Patek Phillipe, Panerai, IWC, etc etc. cheers,
  24. Could be the rape. I'm finding they are just not interested in it - roost shot a few last night and they were full of ivy berries, clover or seed from drillings. The rape around my way is too tall now - I think they find it bitter once it is beyond the early stages. Good luck.
