worked on 5 last night for me. if you can use a shepherds whistle then these are easy. good starting point is if you can whistle using your fingers then your half way there. to deepen the tone you open your throat more. i lift the pitch tight throat. be warned, they do get a very fast response. we have had it a few times where i have put the lamp on after a short burst and there has been one sat there not 20 yards away.

bullet choice for the 6.5x55
activeviii replied to aister's topic in Bullets, Cartridges and Reloading
ppu sp work ok in my 6.5. keep as a back up 120 speers did not group 140 speers grouped but have had two back ones. a muntjac where the bullet separated and then rattled around inside before coming back towards me. i didnt know until i skinned it to find the entry hole and exit hole on the same side of the beast. also a fallow where the bullet went into 3 good chunks and wrecked the whole carcass. i head shot a fallow at less than 20 feet. the bullet when though and then into the skin of the shoulder, did not enter the meat but knackered the shoulders. i will keep what i have for fox and then im trying 160gr sierra sp. after that. no idea lol. -

genuine Harris Bi-pod 1A2 Ultra light 12"-19"-27" smooth legs. £55 posted lamp. 1.5m candle power. about 7" lens. c/w tripod, handle and ground spike. coil lead with cigar plug. £20 Posted 12V batteries for magnet of lamping. Im going to sell as 2 batteries, 17 amp and 12 amp for £50 but i will add another 17amp and 2 x 7amp as im not sure on how well they hold charge. i use on the magnet with no issues but i use a pinewood magnet that a 7 amp lasts all day on. green paint on a few from use in field. COLLECTION ONLY RCBS powdermaster powder dispenser. brand new. had a 110v us plug but it works with a 240volt power plug for a fiver off ebay. £75 To get the best out of them you need the scales with the ir port so the two work together. you then just type the load and press start. i bought to use just to trickle powder but took a different direction. RCBS Scales. these are used. you need the 240v power plug for it and a powder cup, all available from ebay. these have NOT got the IR on to talk to the powder dispenser, but i believe RCBS do the modification for them. Bought on a bit of a wim but never got around to sorting out. £60 I will do both the above for £110 posted. very much a bargain. Flambeau Shaped Single Gun Case. £22 collected. • External measurements: 53 3/8"L x 12 1/8"W x 3 3/4"H • Internal measurements: 51.5" L x 8.5" W • Four locking points for extra security • Eggshell foam lined • Oversized gun guard gun case. £20 collected. same length as the one above. £20 U-caller remote. I had 4 rifles on unrestricted, but they restricted the 6.5 for some strange reason. all now unrestricted with all other lawful quarry. the condition was a verbal one on the phone, I have had. as well as others, some very strange conversations with the manager. I think David has been contacted already by a member with time issues on land checks. Same manager. Neil you need to go shoot something first before you get pate.hehe.

I have a backpack high seat so not overly a problem, it just seamed very strage to me. there is no mention of it on the FAC

the land was checked when i first applied for 6.5x55 for stalking. i had to tie land to rifle and it was this patch in question. Land was checked, via goggle earth while talking to the PC who was checking land. he said he knew it well, as did I, so he was happy for me to shoot, but he was worried about opening it up for everyone with permission. he said then that he 'might' put the condition on. but it never was. i put in for a few changes on my FAC and one was opening up the 6.5. i had a call from the licencing manager, today, to say ticket was ready and just a reminder that on his paperwork it says 'highseat only' on this patch of land. it isnt a biggie really as i only shoot it a couple times a year, i wanted open for other areas i have stalking on. but i dont want to get it wrong. the licencing department arent worth the phone call as they phone other people to asked their advice on issues.lol.

bit of a strange one for me and im not sure on the take of it so asking I have a little patch of land that i stalk on with 6.5x55. its on a very good slope so well suited for walking and stalking. I have just had a phone call from firearms licencing to say my ticket is ready for collection and the 6.5x55 has been unrestricted, But! i was told that the patch of land is for high seat only. how do i stand on that, excuse the pun. I shot it last year stalking on foot but now told it was high seat only. When i spoke to the PC that checked the land a few years ago he was happy i knew what i was doing but was worried that one the land is open to 6.5x55 that it makes it open to anyone, even someone that might not be as competent as myself at assessing the safe shot. I was told by the PC that it 'might' be a condition added but there was no other talk of it until this phone call today from the licencing manager. I have an unrestricted FAC so what would your take be on this. I know what im thinking but i would like others input for the correct 'lawful' answer Phil

Get this month out the way and see what happens. I'm trying to knock the fallow back at the moment, not been done in a very long time, some right poor specimen crawling around at the moment. more looking and waiting rather that shooting. 1 in 4 trips at the moment. that would be the face on head shot, looks low but i wanted to take the brain on the way thought. downwards slope so bleeding out
-
ouch... Hope all get well some Our shoot cancelled yesterday as they weren't happy about the transport. make me glad it was cancelled now.
-
it was as if it was to happen the way it did. the pheasant shoot was cancelled just as i was about to leave the house but i said the farmer/keeper that i would still pop over and have a walk for a chance in the snow. i phoned Neil to say it was canceled but he was almost there. The drive was brown trousers in the snow but i was behind a low loader with a gert great tank on the back and a few wide load vans behind it. 60mph all the way. after i had shot the beast i went and got Neil from where he was waiting at the farm, he had done a good deed and dragged the poor postie out the snow, he had driven past 30 minutes before and didn't see the wire, he had no rifle with him, so it must have crossed after he passed. no idea why i looked where i did but i like to think it was fate. just made 3 loaves of liver pate so hope the gods are with me again as its my first try.

Would love to but your a busy man, so I haven't hassled. Im looking for 20lb of pork as I have a fallow hanging waiting to turn to burgers. any idea on prices? ATB Phil

We could not work out where it was from, the farmer thought, at first, it was his electric fence wire around the pens but a check showed it was all still there. Neil wound up a good 50 meters that was being dragged behind and there must have been 10 meters on the head and around the legs. It was very soft galv wire, no copper in it. my thoughts are is is the type one would use on a fruit cage to hold the netting up

I should have been doing other things today, but it was cancelled due to snow. I was ready to go and NJC was already over the farm, so I grabbed the 6.5 and drove over to the farm. not the nicest of drives but worth the effort. I was just driving down the lane to the farm when I noticed a wire bouncing across the road and then tighten. I stopped the truck to clear the road when i looked towards the other end of where the wire was going. on the end was a fallow buck looking rather worried. I grabbed the rifle off the floor and chambered a round. opened the window and dropped the Fallow with a head shot. not wanting to risk more harm or damage with the heart shot. I left the deer where I fell and went up to the farm to grab Neil, the land owner was there as well, so he also joined us. We could not work out where the wire was from or how long he had been dragging it all around. he is a little on the thin side, I don't know the larder weight yet but as soon as i can get him up on scales i will. Just a shame it wasn't a happy end to its life, but there was no way I was going to try and untangle this lot and try a release. I think the instant humane dispatch was the correct thing to do in this case. All the best Phil.
