  1. Yeah , slow start but gritty northern drama. there are 2 more to go, look good
  2. Just back from a strange couple of hours on our 10 acre Livery yard. Took the .17 for some rabbits but a big pair of eyes back in the lamp proved to be a fox ( my first ). Watched him walk along the boundary beck until he settled and sat still. I had his head in the crosshairs but knew he was well over 100yds out so also knew I couldnt risk the shot. Just watched him, hoping he would move closer. Tried a squeak but he moved off at speed into the wood. I'll be back tomorrow night with the .223 !! In the other paddock i got a fat rabbit and decided to let things settle down. Walked back to our little caravan for a cuppa . Put gun in van, rabbit on ground. Had a cuppa , came out, rabbit gone ! No noise, nothing, just gone. It was a headshot so I know it didnt get up and go home. If it was the fox its got some balls. Was going to use the rabbit as bait tomorrow night , but now I'll have to go get another one or two. It was a bit of a rush having my first fox in the sights, but also a let down as I couldnt take the shot.
  3. Whoever gets it you can be sure of some fantastic racing.
  4. So where we all gonna meet up ??

    TOYOTA

Hi Chuck, is this still for sale ?
  6. Hmmm A group of well armed men, muttering discontent ? If this thread reaches Whitehall none of us may see home again !
  7. I dont suppose for a minute you will find it . The government would not actually write something like that down. In this country many people still believe we have freedom of speech. Within the scope of SOCPA you can be arrested for a spontaneous verbal protest outside parliament , no reason in my book. I am not knocking the police service here , they didnt want many of the laws that have been passed , I was just pointing out that many of the civil liberties we once took for granted no longer exist.
  8. I dont profess to have an example, I merely pointed out the scope and power the police have under SOCPA. If you HONESTLY think this government is not paranoid then I genuinely believe its you that is ******* Naive. You a copper by any chance ?
  9. The civil liberties that have been eroded under "new labour " on the pretext of a fear culture are extensive and the most dangerous law introduced is SOCPA. Serious Organised Crime and Police Act, which allows police to arrest you for no reason. If you are unfortunate enough to be arrested and politely ask why, the police cannot tell you for " security reasons " !!!! I can highly recommend the book " Taking Liberties " by Chris Atkins as a sobering but amusing read. The scale of this government's paranoia is beyond belief. If this post reaches whitehall you may never hear from me again.
  10. Just got my 17 and using a SAK. It seems noisy from users point of view but doesn't seem to bother rabbits down range. Reasonably priced as well.
  11. It was windier than expected and I was using the 17hmr. Think the rabbits were a bit spooked by the wind but got 3 anyway. Long range shots across the wind. Still getting a "feel" for the 17, but what a good rifle , designed for the job. A very pleasant 3 hours away from the TV plus 3 meals.
  12. All the elements were in place last night, westerly wind ( put me downwind of the big warren ), 10 degrees ( leave thermals at home ), cloudy ( block out the moon ) and Dancing on Ice on TV.
  13. I'm quite new to shooting and my first gun was the .22, absolutely loved it. Just got a 17 and now love that. I think there will always be a place for both, noise being an issue around livestock. The 17 comes into its own on nervous bunnies, just stay back and hit them at 100 yds +. The noise doesnt seem to be as big an issue with the rabbits as I thought it would be and as previously remarked you can hit two or three in the same field. Must admit the 17 comes out first, but always take the .22 as well.
  14. Cheers guys, Happy New Year to you Gaz
  15. Just got my 17HMR, CZ American Varmint with SAK, and got my first bunny with it last night. Approx 110yds and hit it with a body shot. After reading threads on here was expecting rabbit to be well mangled but on skinning it , bullet appeared to have gone clean through. Using CCI 17 grains. Anyone else had this ? Thought the 17's were meant to fragment on impact.
  16. Hi, new to shooting and have FAC for 22lr ( which I have just bought - CZ Style with Saks mod and Leupold sights ) 17HMR and 223 for the Foxes. Now, on my current permissions there are not that many foxes but lots of rabbits. Do I buy the 223 for the odd shot at Charlie or get the 17HMR that I can use on the rabbits and reasonable range foxes should they appear ?? Its really a cost thing at the moment as I am just setting up ( lamps, clothing, boots , etc ,etc ). I will eventually get all three guns but what do you think my second buy should be ?? Great forum, picked up loads of advice so far, any thoughts will be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
  17. Hi , new to the forum/ shooting but would like to mention Robin @ Emma custom Rifles in Darlington. Just got my first 22 and Rob set the tele sights by eye. The rifle shoots 1" groups at 50 meters straight out of the bag ! I can highly recommend this guy for all your shooting requirements. Hope to have some more posts shortly as my experience broadens. Just waiting for a good used CZ American 223 to come along. Cheers.
