  1. What size mog are you after? I live 500 USA from Atkinson Vos. I've got a timberwolf 150 dhb, great chipper just getting a bit old now.
  2. my first chipper was an entec truckloader the same as your timberwolf, great little choppers on the right stuff.
  3. I have a pet safe collar and can't rate it highly enough. Most lads on my shoot have used it at some point.
  4. Insurance isn't that bad any more. Think I'm paying about £1500 for public and employers liability. It was just under £5000 a few years ago.
  5. I'm a self employed tree surgeon, have been for 13 years. Never bothered with fencing and did one he flaying job and swore never again. It's hard to get a start now, colleges are churning loads of lads out. I get people asking for jobs most weeks and quite a few offers of free labour to get there foot in the door. Money isn't fantastic. Your best off trying to get on for United utilities or some one big who will put you through your tickets. In my opinion people with under 3 years experience at climbing aren't fast enough to be profitable, always exceptions though. I pay a top climber £140 a day. He's self employed with 7 years experience, his own saws, climbing kit, lowering kit, PPE and vehicle. Lads on the ground I pay between £75 and £100 self employed depending on experience. Where are you based?

Surely he's charging the right amount. If he was charging too much he wouldn't get any work and too cheap and he couldn't afford the holidays.
  7. Being part of the arb association is nothing like being corgi registered. It's not a requirement, it's a club you can join if you want to pay £500 a year for a few stickers and a link to your website. I've worked for arb association approved contractors and non approved contractors and there is no difference in quality in fact the best companies I've worked with are small one man bands.
  8. Good work. What's the NV? And is that a stock extender?
  9. Chains direct are cheap as chips for chains. I buy mine in 100ft reels but I go through a lot.

I've heard a lot of good reviews about the fiskar X25 and X27 I don't split logs by hand any more but if I did I'd buy one. You can get a decent chainsaw file guide from Clarks forestry. http://www.clarkforest.com/shop/chainsaw/chainsaw-sharpeners/windsor-chainsaw-file-guides
  11. Jonsereds like most saws have a drive link width of 1.3 for the smaller saws and 1.5 for the bigger saws. Stihl have 1.3 and for some reason 1.6. It sounds like you have got a chain for a still rather than jonsered.

I've got one. Short barrel in black. If you send me a pm I'll email you some pics tomorrow.
  13. Go on to arbtalk.co.uk they have a milling section on there where someone will be able to help. If you travel up to the lakes or north Lancashire at all I could sort you a piece out.
  14. Am I missing something? Second paragraph says "Most users of goods vehicles that weigh OVER 3.5 tonnes, ie the maximum permitted total weight when loaded, require an operator's licence - but there are a number of exemptions."
