  1. I had to do the same when i started where i am (seven years ago) they asked for an updated copy of my passport the other week. I told them where to go. I am a contractor so they are not my employer as such but an intermediary that i work through. My emplyer has me SC cleared for MOD work. I tried to point out that if i am SC cleared. Just as the photocopy of the passport they have is now an expired one it didn't suddenly mean I wasn't legal in this company. To be fair I am just being bloody minded. They do me no favours other than take a cut of my pay (they didn't even find me the job, I did but i have to go through them) grrrrr. Red Tape annoys me
  2. I like Hugh as well. I liked the fishing series around the country. In Ramsay's defence though he has come from nothing, from a really hard family background. I like both shows and enjoy them for thier entertainment and thier cooking. both very different but still very good. however Kitchen nightmares (USA) made me cringe.
  3. He's actually a top man, in the begining he acted like the big man on TV being rude and abnoxious(it made great sensationalist watching but not that interesting) but it got the press he needed, these days you see he is just truly passionate about what he does. but is also willing to try everything.
  4. well I have added a view, whether it gets added is another thing. just in case this was my view "The argument from Douglas Bachelor is flawed in his own comparison. "Guns should be treated just like cars. No one be they a child or an adult should be allowed out with a gun without a provisional license." How old was Lewis Hamilton when he first drove a Kart (not a go kart but a vehicle capable of 70mph) Children race cars full blown cars from age 14 upwards. This is how we get the sports people of today, letting them start young, gaining the responsibility and experience from an early age. So if he uses an analogy that is so flawed it makes me wonder what other parts of his research are equally flawed. For the record I am pro shooting. I was started with air rifles as a child and learnt to respect quarry and how to prepare it for the table properly. Not just some kid on a street corner kicking a hedgehog or worse because they have nothing to do and no direction. Give kids responsibility, you have to trust a child before they can make a mistake. If they are wrapped up in cotton wool they never learn. and if they are just set wild on the streets they get up to mischief and learn from other miscreants that know no better. "
  5. What a load of ********... Sorry. Ok yes if we went with that rule I wouln't be able to drive. I wouldn't be able to do the job I do, thus i wouldn't have my house, I wouldn't be able to shoot as i wouldn't want to take wheel barrow of stuff a gun and a bag of ammon the bus oh and it doesn't pass the fields. Also two mates of mine one, she passed sixth time and she is a fantastic driver and drives an ambulance. My other friend passed fourth time, is a retained fireman, without his license he wouldn't be able to get to the station in time to save peoples lives. Should this be the same for all things in life. Third girlfriend and not a marraige proposal thats it. resigned to be a bachelor for life. Third job interview and still no job, thats your lot on the dole forever. Get a life
  6. Just purchased a set they look good and lots of good things being said about them.
  7. I got myself a pair of Musto Buckden boots. Hell they are the bee's knees. lucky I have a mate who works for Musto and got me a great deal as I wouldn't have paid £300 for a set of boots but...... I now shoot in them, walk the dog, I can ride in them, English and western style, I go fishing in them and at weekends they are under my jeans the whole time they are sooooooo comfy. My other boots are Lowa Combat got them 4 years ago still going strong £150 i think they are. well worth the money. Luckily my Musto's were mega cheap. Not helpful post really more of a look at me in my new boots sorry
  8. Nice idea on the choccies. Will go home via Tesco when I eventually get out of the office. I don't start till 1400hrs tomorrow so will pop via the farm office tomorrow.
  9. 5th time for me mate. two royally screwed up ones through nerves. one through silly mistakes, one i trully thought i was cheated out of. Then finally I breezed the last one. still i sympathise it is a pain in the aristotle but you won't look back once you got it. p.s. don't get caught doing 84 three days after passing either. as then you have to drive very very carefully for the next two years in fear of losing the hard earnt piece of paper and card.
  10. Mungler mate time for a new GP me thinks..... I am normally pretty damn good a dealing with pain but never having had this and seeing the sheer number of responses of how painful it is, and I can't believe that there are that many "Big Gurls" here I pray I never suffer this ailment. please can you lot tell me you are all way over thirty, please please please. I don't drink tea or coffee though so hopefully that lowers my chances. Get well soon.
  11. I hope he likes Whiskey......
  12. I will make sure mine is there and better than my brothers. Sneak on my permission the ****** using my name.....
  13. I don't do Christmas cards to people so I don't know if it is too early to deliver the Christmas Bottle to my permission yet. i don't want to seem like a kiss *** but i don't want to seem like i have forgotten. (it isn't a sole permission there are other guys that shoot the land too) clearly as you can tell this is the first time i have been shooting on land that isn't a friends or families.
  14. I shoot a semi auto and the thing is a ****** for launching the empties, I could how many shots i fire and i count the empties back in. The other day I must have left 1 as I just couldn't find it, or I miscounted my shots fired. It isn't acceptable. The other month when walking the dog he came running by with a very green pigeon in his mouth (he isn't a gun dog) getting the little sod back to give it to me was, hmm interesting. When we walked back to the car there was a pile of about 15 there. Annoyingly it was right next to a field I have permission on. I went back to the car grabbed a sack and picked them up as i didn't want anyone to think it was me leaving woodies behind. They really smelt too As for fishing I think the fishermen are worse I used to get so mad to see people saunter up near me fish for a few hours then kuff off and leave a pile of rubbish. Maybe they are just more conspicuous because of thier number.
  15. I am far from perfect. Hence knowing the link. I didn't know what it was! I was asked to shoot some stuff before on one of my permissions and nearly did before checking seasons luckily i did as i would have been out of season. I didn't mean to take the **** but it isn't a good idea posting a picture of something already shot and asking what it is. Knowing the sort of people who like to use any ammo to say shooters are irresponsible.
  16. shot one of these last night. What is it? (obviously just kidding) Always know your quarry before pulling the trigger!!!
  17. http://www.basc.org.uk/en/utilities/docume...BA235E27B7A97BB Always good to know what you are shooting before you realise it is protected or out of season. the above link is very useful
  18. Walk up...... Walk up blinking hill by the looks of it. hope you had fun.
  19. The following is borrowed from www.etyres.co.uk When changing tyres on a 4x4 vehicle there are a number of important things to consider. Two of the most important (and costly if ignored) are matching tread depths between new and used tyres if not replacing a full set and maintaining the correct rolling circumference if changing tyre sizes. Matched tread depths are important as too large a difference can, on certain vehicles result in "wind-up" of the 4WD system differential causing serious damage. This will be dependent to some extent on the type of differential and 4wd system used on a particular vehicle. For instance consider the following: A vehicle fitted with 265/70R16 (Nissan Patrol size) A new tyre will, according to the industry standard dimensions (ETRTO) have an overall diameter (O/D) of 792mm. Average tread depth when new will be around 10mm. A tyre with 5mm remaining tread depth will have an overall diameter of 782mm (original O/D - [2x5mm]). To obtain the theoretical rolling circumference of the tyre you multiply the O/D by 3.05. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Calculation: New tyre rolling circumference 792 (original O/D) x 3.05 = 2416mm Tyre with 5mm remaining tread depth 782 (O/D worn tyre) x 3.05 = 2385mm Difference of 31mm This means that the new tyre will have 31mm further to travel for every revolution of the wheel. A tyre of this size will rotate approximately 413 times per km, therefore for every km driven the new tyre will travel an extra 12830mm or approx 13 metres!!!! Tyre manufacturers and retailers have differing views about the maximum allowable difference in tread depths between new and worn tyres fitted to a vehicle but in general most recommend a difference of no more than 3 - 4 mm. All manufacturers will recommend fitting at least matched axle sets. If in doubt consult the vehicle manufacturer before fitting new tyres.
  20. plus new tyres can be like on ice until scrubbed in (to use a motorsport term) also that way you replace 2 at a time fairly regualry if you put on the front eventually you'll be forking out for four at once not just two. More car and wallet control with putting them on the rear.
  21. had a Pajero (LWB) and it was fab but ended up being a money pit just because it was old and abused. Now have a new L200 Wifey traded her GTI for Forrester S Turbo. the GTI was a pile of poo but all three of the others in their own ways brilliant cars. Nothing beats the Pajero for cabin space and comfort after all they were £35000 cars new. The L200 has great load capabilties and the hard top on back makes it ideal for the hound (Rhodesian Ridgeback) he takes up some room. The Forrester (y reg) has loads of room in boot, all four seat are comfy (heated seats for the mrs on cold days, although they make me think i've wet myself) It goes like slippery poo from a shovel (as does the fuel 25mpg) or can be driven sedately and much better MPG acheived. I've never really had to do much off roading with it, but at a rally one day in the snow lots of people taking it in turns to push each others cars up a slope as no one could get up it (ok mostly chav mobiles) I helped push a couple, they came back to help push me up the hill as i just happily drove up the incline past them all. Quite a nice smug feeling. In short if you don't need serious off road and a little bit of pace from time to time the Subaru is great if you need the space and off road an L200 or simmilar would probably be better.

    Rav4

As already the said the L200 defo has rear diff lock, i can only engage it when in 4x4 with the centre diff locked as well. I believe the new Navara only has LSD. Landies have diff locks. standard 4x4 = all four wheels driving but if one slips then most of the drive will be lost through that wheel = one wheel slipping could cause bogging 4x4 centre Diff locked = 50% of drive to front diff, 50% of drive to rear diff = you'd have to have one front wheel and one rear slipping to be bogged 4X4 centre diff locked, rear diff locked = 50% front diff 25% rear left 25% rear right = three wheels slipping to be bogged. (both rear and one front) or all four wheels. Obvously that is slightly simplified but that is the general gist of it. Tyres make a massive difference too. A decent set of off road tyres can negate quite a lot of a cars mechanical deficencies.
  23. Had I actually got bogged in then it might have been enough for me to open the wallet, but four BFG's are gonna be the best part of £500 and my tyres have only done 2,500miles so it seems fairly uneconomical, unless I am losing money by being late to work or not making to work as i have got stuck in a field somewhere. Still happy with the motor though
  24. typical responses from people who don't know where food comes from. However the manner in which he killed the animal was a little daft. Crime of the century I think not. I love the comment "I feel sorry for the pigeon, and the ones shot" Bless. what about the chickens sitting in the dark covered in **** with no space waiting to get a bolt in the head??? grrrr having a bad day already today, not in the most tolerent of moods
  25. the pocuk boys are great i am sure they will have an answer for you. always did for me with my Pajero.
