  1. What M J should do is instruct his "Liarers" to work on getting a mis-trial, when that happens they should then hire the jury O J Simpson had. The way I sees it. Best regards, Feather
  2. Around 1943 the only cartridges available were Eley which came in paper case looked like they were made out of brown wrapping paper, with very little or no weather protection on them. At that time I was an apprentice to the local undertaker in the village of Docking Norfolk, which gave me access to coffin varnish, so whenever I managed to get hold of a box 25 I would give them a coat of 50/50 varnish and turps. There was also a low grade cartridge manufactured for farmers called Scare bird (Eley). They had shot in them but they were always loose, could push the cap in sometimes a 1/4", I had a way of getting around that one too, My Grandfather had a lot of reloading equipment including a crimper, so I would push the load down until it was tight, cut off the old crimp and then turn on a new one. Best Regards, Feather

I believe in being fare to all. It is my intention to give as much attention to the Popes funeral, as I intend giving to the upcoming "Royal wedding". Which I can assure you, is no hill of beans. Best regards, Feather

  13. Mine IS a Bungay, yes still have it in my treasure box. also have a mould for making shot about 9/16" dia:. Could knock a roosting pheasant out of a tree on a moon light night and not sound was made, always told Dad I found the bird on the road side (road kill), thought that best, as he was the local policeman. Best regards, Feather,
  14. How about, "Childrens Hour", with uncle Mac and the "Fortynine Steps","Lost in space" all on the radio, no TV in those days. Best regards, Feather.
  15. This is my lucky day, I happen to know the cartridge in question. During the war they where used extensively by the RAF for clay pigeon shooting in the training of air gunners, but in those days they were printed with two black bands and big arrow,(which didn't stop Dad and I from using them). However, I think the one's in the pictures are sample hand-outs of a slightly later date. That's the best I can do, except to say, It was rather interesting to see a little "tracer" going through the air. Best regards, Feather.
  16. Good grief, they were dear. Smiths crisps with the little bag of salt in them 3d or just over 1p in todays language. I am not looking to be the Big-Shot here by no means, BUT:- Smiths crisps 2 pence just before the war We lived in Wisbech then, and Saturday morning all the jobs were done for which I was "paid" 6 pence for my work. Saturday afternoon it was all spent, as follows, 2 pence to store by bike in town, 2 pence to go to the Empire or Hippodrome and 2 pence for chips wrapped in newspaper which were eaten before I got home. The Hippodrome was the best as they had Buck Rodgers and Flash Gordon in serials. I can remember seeing George Formby in a fill called "Its in the air". I could go on for ever, but mighty bored you would be. Best regards Feather
  17. Having read this thread and I might say enjoyed the comments there in, and seeing the varied range of flies used by fishermen far and wide. My mind always go back to a quote from the film,"And a river runs through it" in which was said:- "He tied a thing on that looked like a chicken", Best regards, Feather.

  23. My Dad had one of those old mail bags, the best game bag ever. We packed it full on one of our roost shoots in Black Hearn wood one Saturday evening in 1946, I had an army back pack and it was jammed full, two more bundles of pigeons around my neck tide together with binder twine and on top of that Dad had a large bundle of pigeons in one hand, then we walked home 4.5 Km arriving about 8.45 too tired to eat. Don't remember how many we got, but is was one of our "Red Letter Days". Best regards, Feather,
  24. This is interesting Material to read indeed, I would have thought the question should be, at what speed would a pigeon "stall"? As I see it, if a pigeon is about six feet from ground, it must be dropping in for a landing and therefore is actually slower than "stall". Best regards. Feather
