  1. I couldn't watch that programme last night. I have one under 3 yrs and can't bear to think about something like that happening to him. I remember from the time and the CCTV pic of them leaving the shopping centre will haunt me to my last days. I thought they were shipped out to Australia with new IDs. They will answer properly one day.
  2. The RFD you are buying from usually wants something for the courier (£15 seems average) and the recieving RFD may want something for the paperwork. I used to use one who charged £20 but now I use a club member who does if free for other members.
  3. The trouble with getting on pigeon around here (South Ox/West Berks/North Wilts) is the number of syndicate shoots who like to keep the pigeon as a beaters perk. Also at this time of year the keepers are letting the birds out and don't want us making a racket and getting them all unsettled. I'm fortunate enough to live on an estate where the keeper lets me go after pigeon most of the year but I am having to stop now as he gets ready to release. I have started asking around other farms/estates in the area but the story is the same. You could try approaching some keepers and offering to do some beating, and later in the season enquire if you could go out on the pigeon. Otherwise it really is a case of not giving up and keeping an eye out for fields being heavily hit then making an opportunistic visit to the estate office. Good luck, and if you find anything worth sharing in the area PM me :look:
  4. Watch out, at that price they are only the covers for your old shell deeks. Still worth it though if you have some old tatty shells
  5. Could be, but at least you can get them out of the gun without a fight and unless you are target shooting the accuracy should net be that badly affected.
  6. Well, there you have it. Length certainly should be taken into consideration but the cases are jamming in the chamber because they are just too fat. Get a case sizing die and all will be well
  7. It sounds like you are only resizing the neck and not the whole case. Check your dies.
  8. I agree with Koz08, there should be stricter licensing of the individual, but I would add compulsory safety courses for each discipline, compulsory DSC for stalkers and ethics courses for anyone wanting CCW. I would also include a similar requirement for air guns and bows. Then, providing you meet the grade, any firearm should be available.
  9. I think you have summed it up. It may be thought that the leadership is looking after its own best interest while paying lip service to the rest of the members. Ultimately all they need are s/s and o/u shotguns for gamebirds and bolt action rifle for stalking. I would never suggest such an idea though.
  10. I know BASC do alot for shooting in general but I feel they need a louder bark and this can be acheived by getting the right names on board. Not necesserily the MPs, Lords and niche celebs they recruit but mainstream opinion makers who can turn the general public opinion in our favour. All that money spent on the media centre could be used more wisely on direct media promotion. It's not like there are no studios out there they can use (probably and a greatly reduced cost from a member). If the TV or magazine has an anti editor and the general media is not going to run your story just because you made it in your own studio. Anything else is preaching to the converted. I have spoken to some excellent and knowledgable people at BASC but I feel the leadership is stale. I resigned this year after being greatly let down by them...(pah! That's another thread) Whatever my opinions, the general shooting community should support BASC as it is probably the loudest voice we have in the UK, it just needs to be louder.
  11. Another fear is that it could get into the hands of normal police and not just trained armed units.
  12. Just suppose there was a change in the law to make it more like the US, concealed carry, etc. Events would probably run like this: Lots of NIMBYs would continue not to have guns All the decent, law abiding shooters would have guns All the crims, nutters, Walter Mittys, etc would buy guns The latter group would make a mess, the police would respond and remove same from the population. Also among the crims would be an equal amount of vigilante types who would help reduce the number of this group even more (until they were ultimately shot by the police themselves). The NIMBYs would be outraged that there were guns on the street (because of course there are none now ), some would buy guns to feel safer but without training they would just become thier own worse enemies. Those with sense (including the law abiding shooters) would get decent defensive training. The crims that were left would realise that the general public are not easy picking any more. Road rage would stop overnight (although maybe after the first idiot with anger management issues is killed by a pensioner). So, after the enevitable increase in gun crime while the rot was removed, thing would settle down with the decent, law abiding shooters enjoying our sports and the NIMBYs accepting that guns don't kill people rabbits do.
  13. Maybe organisations like BASC should spend less time and money preaching to the converted and more on lobbying politicians to get them on-side.
  14. Yes, they have been aroud for a while and I imagine they are popular in the US where they treat criminals with less cotton wool. I like the caption "...shot from a weapon which looks like a shotgun...". Thats because it is a shotgun, but it would be wrong for our coppers to point shotguns at unarmed crims
  15. I agree, everyone should be a member of a local club (lest they disappear forever) and a national body too. Sportsmans Aassociation, NRA at Bisley, CPSA or even BASC are all worth our support. Also, get as many people as you can to try a shooting discipline to help remove their misconceptions. I took 40 colleagues from work to Bisley for a corporate day and everyone had a fantastic time, most of them never held a gun before. They also have an open days twice a year where you can take friends along to have a go at various disciplines. If we don't support our sport no one else will.
  16. Where else? http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trk...-All-Categories
  17. When the neighbour knocks on the door saying "excuse me, can I have my arrows back?" your friend should know what to say... Arrows! What arrows? B)
  18. I get over about 3 times a year for competitions. They have a good indoor range and an all weather outdoor range. I can recommend it if you want a good allround club. B)
  19. Go and see David at Kells RPC if you want some new kit. I'll PM his number if you are interested, let me know.
  20. A method I read (although maybe on a US website) was to take it outside dig a shallow hole, add the powder and burn it of (using a fuse of paper or something so not to get singed). As it is not compressed it should not explode and it will leave little residue which can be covered over in the hole. Alternatively and probably far more sensible is to hand it in at the local nick.
  21. Call the police mate. This sound like the sort of chap that used to torture small animals as a child and is now getting ready to progress to bigger things. B) His next step may be to apply for an FAC. Is he the sort of person we want in the press as a licensed gun owner taking pot shots at cattle (or people) with a .308? That would be perfect publicity for our sport.
  22. First try it without the scope, just on iron sights. It may say Tasco but it may be an ebaytastic hongkong special. How inaccurate is it?
  23. Does that work for whiney girlfriends too?
  24. I have never glued mine (instructions?) and have never had a problem with the flying off across the field
