  1. Hi, I am selling my Pulsar N550, with the Dr Bobs Kit & 1.7 Sony lens doubler, I will also include :- 1.8ah external battery pack & fly lead Pulsar L 808 laser IR T50 torch , 3 mode & adjustable mount It was fully serviced by Pulsar ( Russia) November 2014 .. Via Thomas Jacks ltd £ 500 posted to UK mainland , or very near offer This is advertised elsewhere Pictures on request & sent to email address
  2. If I am correct, You won't get an 'L' in the uk... Only the 'S' is stocked.. They are great peice of kit, just add a good T20 or bigger IR torch.. I use them on my 17hmr, 17 Hornet & 223 Easy 200yrds + You will hear loads of arguments about , this or that, but unless it's 2nd hand, none come close for the money .. I have a N550 with Dr Bobs doubler & Sony lens, that wins on picture image & clarity, but it's 2x the cost new ( although, I would sell it for the right money ) ... Al.
  3. In my memory, hmr ammo gas always had split necks after firing, cos they don't anneal the brass.. The more modern problem is the primer / powder combination.. I use Winchester, never had an issue, I also ran cci, & Remington , and the same.. But as of late, the quality is poor.. I would be keeping a close eye on every shot
  4. I would chrono your load .... From my own experience 150fps at the muzzle made a massive difference I used to use varget, but after the 'shortage' I needed to work a new load with a new powder, I found that 3050fps and 3200fps with the 53 gr vmax made a massive difference , Rabbits 'Pop' when hit, internal trauma on All quarry is greatly increased. I used to shoot the 55gr vmax all the tine but changed to 53's when I changed powder.. Also, Imo, I don't get any runners if I place the shot well. Just my 2p ... Al.
  5. Try different COL , I found I get a better group with 1.740 & 1.765 was good. There was a slight drop in fps but that is to be expected ( more room in case ) , careful tho, Check your head space / jump to lands... As if you sit them too deep in the throat the pressure will go up if it touches , About .10 to .20 is a good jump. But you may find your rifle is different. I am limited by mag size, as 1.765 is the longest I can get in a mag
  6. I use :- 10.6 gr IMR 4227 20 gr vmax Federal Primers COL - 1.720 I get 3550fps & easy .5 MOA
  7. I was looking at using one of these.. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&alt=web&id=371583936187&globalID=EBAY-GB It will need a speed controller , to get the most out of it But I use them for my NV rigs , and there fine
  8. Guess he was correct, and not all info is common knowledge, But if you ask the right questions, trust others judgement & reports, the outcome can be shocking
  9. I could not agree more than some of the comments on here.. I like a .17, I need a rifle to moderate well , shoot mainly rabbit, & be good enough for the occasional fox.. The 17 hornet does this very well. The hmr, was on paper this go to round, but those that have used it over a number of years, have seen , like me, that this is not the case. I personally don't take any foxes with mine, I personally don't think it's good enough. Rabbit, no problem, corvid, the same.. But you are thinking about range & stopping power, which is fine under glass, & less so under NV . I shoot my .223 regularly to great effect with fox, but it is not a good carry Gun, on some of my permissions, so I need a good calibre smaller, lighter, and just as good, the 17 hornet does this .. I tend to shoot most of my quarry under 200yrds at night, with NV, so I zero my .223 & .17 hornet to 80yrds, ( 2nd zero @ 170yrds ) this gives me a fast flat trajectory, so it's point and shoot.. I always believed in the hmr & still do, I have not had the issues that have been talked about, I mainly use Winchester ammo. I am unsure if this helps, but I do know that with careful thought & shots at reasonable ranges, it works well.
  10. Factory Hornady Brass, Haven't needed to form brass yet, but will do soon, Then I'll have to see if I can get the load to fit in it
  11. I think I will stick to 20g vmax.. I don't eat what I shoot, so I'm not worried about the damage, and I like that it's capable of taking a fox, if the need arises. I zero to 80yds, 2nd zero is 170yrds and it's as flat as ****, only .5" with way from 50 to 190 I'm getting 3555 fps out of my load and I'm as happy as a pig in poo

    .17 hornet brass

I've been using IMR 4227 , as its one of the hogdons extreme powders .. So far I've done good ladder tests up to 10.8 gr , with good results , No pressure signs in my CZ .. I'm getting : 10.3 - 3400 fps ( tight group ) 10.5 - 3505 fps 10.6 - 3550 fps 10.7 - 3593 fps 10.8 - 3633 fps I think I'm going to work on the 10.5 & 10.6 a it more I'm going to work on C.O.L. Next , as I'm currently running them at 1.720 but that's about 0.070 off the lands I'm limited by mag length, but I'm going to see if 1.745 tights them up Ps . Sorry to high jack thread .. Good luck with Brass, but making them out of privi 22 hornet may be the only answer

    .17 hornet brass

Mick, what load you using to fireform ?
  14. What's your normal load ? Or have you just been using factory ?
  15. Cool.. What load have you in mind for the fireform ? Same as your normal load ?
  16. Are you going to anneal them before fireforming ?
  17. Ok.. I'll contact him about it & try to get an idea of lead time
  18. I've just got back from working up a new load.. Imr 4227 , it's a good powder, temp stable made my ADI ( same as varget, 8208 XBR , ect ). I like it !!! No pressures signs & groups well , consistent speed at 3500 for 10.5gr , with fedral primers 20g vmax. Coal : 1.720 Plenty of room for more powder in the case, so I will try a load of 10.7 & 10.9
  19. Yeah... Lol Too many pints ! The dies , yeah it's all about cost .... A tween die, if you can get enough of an order works out the cheapest , But as you say 2nd hand die comes close, Some do use the 17 hornet seating dies ( Redding ) but they are expensive .. If you have to buy one cos you all ready have dies There are options, it's cost that the issue .. There are some that would rather buy factory ammo & reuse , personally , where I shoot , I loose brass, not many but it adds up.. Also if your not careful when loading you can do the necks in , the 20gr are tricky, God knows why they didn't boat tail them !!! But that would be too easy
  20. Brass :- Hornady 17 hornet = £ 35 for 50 Privi 22 hornet = £ 21 for 100 .. Worth the work in my opinion! Bullet prices vary depending on your choice , but V Max are about £ 23 a box When you work out a powder load is around 10 gr , you should get roughly 700 loads out of a tub ....
  21. Hi, Yeah what has been said... Really easy & good results Take 22 hornet brass, neck down to .20, Then size in 17 HH fl die , trim to 1.355 Anneal shoulders / neck ... Then fireform Most get really good accuracy even when fireforming the case. Privi 22 hornet brass is actually slight larger capacity after fireforming than Hornady factory , Privi - 13.85gr Hornady 13.40 gr And both have the same wall thickness. Privi has a slightly larger flash hole. Some do use the 17 hornet seating die to start the neck ( down to .20 cal ) but it doesn't work with all dies ( like the telescopic Hornady seating die ) it crushes the case.
  22. Ive contacted a friend who can make the ' tween dies' to neck down the brass He has quoted me a rough cost of £ 45 - 30 , depending on numbers made.. Is there anyone else who would be interested ? Anyone else make there own cases for 17 hornet ?
  23. It didn't work in mine, I have the telescopic hornady seating die .. May have just been me ..
  24. I did not know that ... How much are they ? Or can you give me a link ? Thanks Al
